Sepp Blatter is suffering from stress-related symptoms, according to a spokesman, after the suspended Fifa president was assessed by doctors yesterday after a “medical incident”.
Few details of Blatter’s condition were given, but Klaus Stöhlker, one of his closest aides, said last night that the 79-year-old was “under a huge pressure” and has been told to rest until next Thursday or Friday while remaining under “medical evaluation”.
“He [Blatter] is under medical evaluation,” Stöhlker said last night. “The doctors took him out for a few days and they expect him to be back around Thursday or Friday of next week.
“He is under tremendous pressure from so many sides and perhaps this is a little bit difficult for a man who is not the youngest. There are not only the world’s media who want to talk to him, who are asking for him,” Stöhlker told Associated Press. “There are also many other pressure groups who have raised questions about him. He has so much to do with all these commissions and all these lawyers.
“The doctors told him to stay cool and relaxed for a few days and that is what he’s doing. It’s good for him to relax under medical control. I saw him this morning and he will recover.”
There were conflicting statements about whether Blatter had been to hospital. Richard Cullen, his lawyer and a former United States federal prosecutor, said that his client had been in hospital and “expects to be home shortly”, but Stöhlker said Blatter “is not in hospital and has never been in hospital”.
Blatter announced in June that, with Fifa mired in a corruption scandal, he was ready to relinquish the presidency, but he determined that he would not do so until a successor was elected at a later date. The election will take place at the Fifa congress on February 26.
He hoped to remain in power until then in order to “oversee the reform process”, but in September he became the latest Fifa official to come under investigation from the Swiss authorities. Criminal proceedings were opened six weeks ago by the Swiss attorney general, who is investigating a Fifa payment of £1.35 million to Michel Platini, the Uefa president.
Both Blatter and Platini, who have denied any wrongdoing, have been suspended from football-related activities by Fifa’s ethics committee pending a full investigation into the matter. The two men have said the payment stemmed from a verbal agreement relating to Platini’s employment as a special adviser to the Fifa president between 1998 and 2002.
Platini’s suspension – and the consequent unease felt by the FA and other national associations who had planned to back him — has cast serious doubts about his Fifa electoral hopes. Uefa has nominated Gianni Infantino, the general secretary, as an alternative candidate in case Platini does not clear his name in time. Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, of Bahrain, is attracting significant levels of support.

the FBI/IRS/NYC prosecutor will build a solid gold case against him.
Apply for extradition
Suddenly he'll be too ill to stand trial, extradition refused.
he'll live under the care of his "nurses" at home and will live another 15 years in luxury off his ill gotten gains.
Humm, am I clairvoyant or just a cynic ?the FBI/IRS/NYC prosecutor will build a solid gold case against him.
