I read somewhere that they pull 20-30 bodies out of the Thames each year.
That few?

I am really surprised it is not more.

The Thames is a dangerous river especially in the London area with the rapid tides, structures built in it causing strong currents and the boat traffic.
According to Google, 20-30 a year

Although those are just the ones they find...

The attacker may never be found his body may have been eaten by the sharks
Or he may have jumped on a bus and gone to Tower Hamlets

Daft question, but could he not have gotten into a car or hidden under a truck (he has form for this) crossing the bridge. I assume that some vehicles passed during the time period.

It's the stuff of conspiracy theories. He escaped by disguising himself as a swan, sailed down the Thames to freedom, plastic surgery and a new career as a traffic warden in Workington.

Slightly morbidly fascinated by the idea that the police go looking for a body and end up finding several others. How exactly do they “look” for them; the water in the Thames is hardly crystal clear and it must be absolutely full of foreign objects, are there certain ‘traps’ that they only check from time to time? We can all appreciate that plenty of souls have met their end in the river, yet it somehow “looking” for them still seems a slightly bizarre concept.

How is the possibility of hiding under a truck a conspiracy theory?

Indeed.

The idea of him hanging around for a suitable lorry to get into/onto/under is far more plausible than him killing himself in the Thames.

As somebody already said, he has form for it.

No different to any old school officer patrolling a beat. Checking all of the nooks and crannies once in a while - never know what youll turn up. The Thames is their beat

Really? This is somebody who has committed the most chaotic of crimes, yet suddenly has the presence of mind to find a spot in central London that isn’t covered by CCTV, then finds a suitable stationary lorry to somehow hang on to long enough without any straps, whilst not being seen climbing under or out of said lorry.

Or more likely, he realised the game was up as a result of his actions and injury, and given throwing a corrosive substance in people’s faces isn’t exactly the actions of a sane individual, he decided to take his own life be jumping off a bridge into a fast moving body of water.

I know which working hypothesis I would go with as the most likely.

The Police have found two bodies already - neither are the attacker.

I wonder if Lord Lucan may now be found.

It's not so much about the "decent" thing, but the most plausible actions of an irrational, mentally unstable, desperate person.

In that regard, whilst anything's possible, taking the Jason Bourne route of escape, evasion and detection seems less likely.

Some people will literally always look after their mates. Right or wrong doesn't come into it.

Not sure if it is true but I heard that some of Lord Lucan's friends were of that type. (Though he probably ended up in the drink too.)

Only very, very limited information available of course, but let’s say for just a moment that he is still holed up somewhere… What’s the prognosis likely to for a substantial facial chemical burn? Would it, potentially, eventually heal? Or will he be slowly rotting?!
