Is the end nigh for the Euro? [vol. 2]
Discussion
Yes, it's rather splendid isn't it?
I have to say, in a totally gentlemanly but competitive way, in the terms of the this thread I've been rather enjoying the last week or so
It surely won't last, when those in charge decide to make it go the other way though so they can make more money again.

What's is going on with the pound? Slipped to 1.14 against the Euro is this the effect of QE?
Not really. Bad news in terms of UK deficit and economy, bullst readily swallowed from EZ about Greece making progress (!) a consensus from the ECB etc etc. When did we stop working on facts and truth and start relying on wishful thinking?
Disturbing article on apparent corruption in the Spanish government see:

If there is any truth in this at all the fantasy of Spanish recovery could be shredded whatever the EU try to spin this into. The general distrust of politicians by the electorate is growing across the failing states in the EU. Clearly something has been going on with a former party treasurer who had upwards of 20 million in his bank account, now under money laundering investigation. The plot thickens.

Violence could be well on the way across Europe, almost all the ingredients are there.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-21305154

Yes, I expect there will be civil war soon. No, nuclear war, that's it. Nuclear.
A quite large nuclear war between all the European countries which will then evaporate in a flash and a sort of "phut" type noise leaving only a circle-made-of-stars shape in the ground and a faint wiff of cordite.
The UK will go from strength to strength and the pound will grow so muscular they will need Union Jack adorned struts to prop it up and people will come and visit the hole in the ground where the unfortunate Europe used to be for their holidays and fathers will turn to their children and recount in grave voices that this is what happens when you dare to speak a foreign language and want to get together with other people speaking others foreign languages and use the same money.
Yeah.

Been clearing out old stock in the medicine cabinet Driller?
Indeed.
It would probably start out a bit like a gentle but wide-form whooshing sound, the volume of which would gradually rise whilst the frequency range narrowed, reaching a crescendo 2 to 3 seconds later, to be suddenly cut-off with a percussive and staccato "TAC!"-like report.
But it wouldn't stop there.
The resounding echo would peal off in multiples and ricochet off the walls of the newly nascent star-circled chasm and be drawn up by the rapidly evaporating inferno-born gases into an accelerating and ascending vortex, transforming the echoing "TAC!" into a rising, deafening whine which would reverberate out over the now desolate terrain, progressively dispersing and fading away to leave a foreboding, oppressive silence.

Meanwhile in Ireland:
"January's Exchequer figures show a 3% rise in tax revenues compared to the same month last year, but Government spending rose by just over 7%, driven primarily by the Department of Social Protection"
Europe is getting more bankrupt by the month - unfortunately so is the UK.

Ain't that the truth! I do wonder which will break first. The politicians in both camps are absolutely interested only in themselves and not in the country they represent.
The UK, largely by luck, has still got the ability to adjust sterling. Other than that I think both gooses are well and truly cooked. Time will tell. What cannot continue is whole nations living beyond their means and being comfortable with that choice. Not for long.

The problem Steffan is that Japan has been in that state for 15 years.......The UK, largely by luck, has still got the ability to adjust sterling. But if everyone is fked, surely on balance everyone must be fine and dandy?
And so the dance goes on.......regardless of all the dire prognostications and the wish of many that the Euro would collapse, the fact that it hasn't happened yet makes me think that it never will. There's no real sense to it, and the rules keep changing on an almost daily basis, but I'm prepared to bet* that the Euro will still be here for the next decade.- A small amount. Perhaps €10.

Methinks that someone with real cojones would bet £10.- A small amount. Perhaps €10.

So youre betting ten of something that that something won't exist? Nice work, have you applied for a job at the ECB? - A small amount. Perhaps €10.
