I can't see how anyone that drinks 4 bottles of wine a week would be affected ??
Because by the (ridiculous) government definition they are binge drinkers and thus, targeted.

If I have three pints of stella at a pub quiz, I'm a binge drinker. If I have TWENTY pints of stella, I'm a binge drinker.

Does anyone think those things are remotely comparable?

Why should said 4 bottle/week drinker pay a fortune because some tattooed fkwit goes out hammered and glasses someone? The tattooed fkwit remains a violent tattooed fkwit irrespective of the cost of booze, but no, lets fk everyone over in the name of 'somebody do something!!!!!'

Or are you really so naive to think this will only affect your buckfast/white lightning mob?

Sodding NIMBYS.

I could actually see this making Britain's problem with drunken idiocy even worse. British people seem to have a shore-leave mentality about drinking (I'm guilty of it myself) whereby I can go all week without a drop and then Friday late afternoon I run to the nearest bar and "get on it" until I'm good and merry.

Then Saturday is the big one. Depending where I am and what I'm doing it can be a good long afternoon boozing session, or a few in the evening. For some people though, it's not complete without vomiting and fighting.

Raising the price of alcohol doesn't mean that Tyler and co will spend their Saturday evenings in the library, or that they'll limit themselves to 3 pints and be home by 9pm. It means they will go completely bat-st when they do go out.

Roughly where about in London do you live?

Btw, if the the loss leading alcohol is stopped and prices are shifted up you can guarantee that everything will increase in price too.
Clapham Junction, also lived in Croydon and Wimbledon . All the fking same

Look, if you drink a little you ain't gonna care if it's gonna cost you extra 10 quid on Saturday night , if you down 10 pints and think your invincible it will affect your finances.

Absolutely. Sucm are scum.

Just because they're sober they do not become more considerate or civic minded. That these sort of bds tend to assault slightly more when they are drunk is possible - or perhaps it's because there are more non-violent (drunk) victims to pick on.

One of my best mates is a police officer with an enormous amount of first hand experience of how a lot of these scrotes work. Frankly, if people had better protection to tesify against those assaulting them, and the courst dished out more representative sentences to violent repeat offenders, a lot of this would go away. In many places there are but a handful of (extremely nasty) individuals comitting the most serious assaults on the street of an evening. Bang them up properly and everyone is safer. Granted, you will always tend to get the odd booze-fuelled argument, but then if people know these incidents are properly policed and prosecuted, it would serve as a better deterrent.

I think there's you answer.

BTW, I do care if it costs me £10 more a week if cretins don't know how to handle their drink.

I don't like paying tax either, however it's got to such a point that I would agree with prohibition at the moment. It's a sad state of affairs when the only way out is taxing . Look at Sweden and see how much a bottle of whiskey costs

It wont make a blind bit of difference to the binge drinking culture if massive taxation is slapped on the price of alchohol, all that will happen is even more local pubs will be forced to close.

The town centres will remain the same as kids will just get bevvied up at home and go out a little later on and still get drunk, still get smashed and still cause trouble.

I was amazed at the drink culture when i went to Norway where a 0.4 litre of beer is 7 quid plus, I expected it to be full of sober Norwegians. Anyone who has been to Norway will know that this is simply not the case and they like a good piss up like anyone.

A lot tend to have a 'Vorspiel' (Pre piss up party) prior to going out.

Massive taxation doesn't work in Norway and it wont work over here.

Exactly. Northern Europeans like to get pissed. Rule of the universe. A nice man from marketing who lucked into the top job isn't going to change a couple of thousand years of Celts/Vikings/Picts/Jutes/Angles/Danes/etc and their desdendants getting mullered at the weekend.

Even if this is true, why the hell should *I* be punished because someone *else* can't say "no"?

That's my fault how? But by all means, lets punish ME for it. rolleyes

Like I said, these proposals have all the credibility of your average BRAKE manifesto and roads.

Do you think doubling the cost would of stopped your father becoming an alcoholic?
Yes because he's the tightest i've ever met biggrin
People don't stop drinking due to the cost. They make / buy illegal alcohol, or their kids go without.

Sadly not, most people get pissed at the weekend/drink on the evening , take this away and they would struggle to find something else to do , there are far more people reliant on booze than you think.

It only takes a few drinks per night and a weekend bender to become dependent and wreak your liver.

Try it, spot drinking for a couple of months, see how far you get, i managed it for 12 months, but it was hard going but did feel even more awesome then normal biggrin

Its a minority tearing up the city centre, we're not debating the health angle.

I dont give a toss what peoples preference are so long as they're not hurting other people, let them live their lives. Besides, fat bds cost a LOT more upkeep than drinkers, gotta prioritise wink

Of course it is the same, it is exactly the same.

Even if I was, it is precisely NONE of your business. Stop telling people how to live their lives based on your value system.
