(although can we PLEASE have less Claire Balding).
But how else are they going to fill their token homosexual quota as part of the BBC's charter for equality?

Normally BBC sports coverage is without peer - so I remain optimistic about the olympics (although can we PLEASE have less Claire Balding).

When the BBC upped sticks and moved most of its operation to Manchester, it left behind an awful lot of talent in London who didn't want to relocate their families and who promptly found gainful employment at ITV, C4, C5, Sky and a plethora of London-based production companies. This included people on both sides of the camera.

As a consequence, instead of world-leading technical and creative staff responsible for output, you have a team of people whose recent past glories were largely limited to regional news.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Sue Reid / Blue Screen thing outside St Paul's yesterday morning!

Out of interest, which presenters have swapped sides instead of moving up North?

Martyn Lewis went from HTV to BBC - but that was in 1977.

Sian Williams and Chris Hollins no longer work for the BBC but are contracted to them on a freelance basis (hence their involvement in the broadcasts over the weekend). You then have Martin Brundle and David Croft (who used to do a lot more than just F1 on the beeb) and I believe a few other news reporters.

TBH, the issue is less about presenters but more about technical and creative staff as it is they than control the quality of output.

Well I'd have thought Brundle and Croft have nothing to do with the move up North, and then you just have two breakfast presenters and few other un-named news presenters that may have left their jobs instead of moving up North.
Not sure I'd call that an awful lot of talent on the presenters side of things.

It's all interconnected, Eccles. The Manchester move was a contributory factor in the BBC not being able to afford the F1 Contract they had previously calculated that they could.

The crux is the technical staff as good directors, editors, technicians, writers, etc, can make average presenters look great. This was what was lacking this weekend.
