Love coasters, let me at it bounce,my faves are
1.Oblivion (alton towers)
2.Rita queen of speed(alton towers)
3.Grand National(Blackpool)
4.Pepsi max(Blackpool)

Nemesis at alton towers did'nt do anything for me,found it a bit boring, havent been on any outside this country, but would love to go on a few in the states.
Oblivion is boring, the only time it was a bit poo inducing for me was when the 'pause' before the drop lasted at least a minute longer than it should have done. Nemesis is a masterpiece.

Pah!! If you're really looking to have a go on something that'll scare the scensoredt out of you, try riding a rollercoater that someone built themselves in their back garden! biggrin

That looks suicidal.eek

Still wouldn't stop me from having a gobiglaugh
I've only ever been scared on one ride - This one

Designed and built by Pleasureland Southport, it was a deathtrap, felt rickety and unsafe, but not in a good way. The only ride I have ever said "never again" after riding.

My friends and I got stuck for half an hour at the top of "Oblivion" just at the point the car is due to be released, so we spent 30minutes staring over the edge into the hole not knowing when we might fall before an engineer climbed up and gave us a shove...

It was an interesting experience.

Nemesis at Alton Towers
PepsiMax at Blackpoo (TM)
Duelling Dragons at Islands of Adventure, Florida, especially when you discover the secret passage (oo err vicar) which allows you to circle round and take a short cut in the queue for a rerun, and a rerun, and a rerun, and another rerun, and then you feel sick.
Strictly speaking not a coaster but Tower of Terror at Disney MGM in Paris is a hoot, no idea of the Florida one is the same, we didn't manage to do that one when we were there.

But actually my fave has been mentioned a few times in this thread

The Hulk at Islands of Adventure
Just the right overall combination.

I like vertical drop rides - I like the airtime you get. Shot & drop's load up at ground level, shoot you up and let you fall, others drag you up slowly then drop you. Tower Of Terror was Ok, Apocalypse at Drayton Manor in the midlands is better, because there is no "theming" - you get dragged up 54m (and it feels higher, as you are on the top of the hill), then dropped.

When I did the stand-up version, which leans you about 15 degrees from the vertical, I made the mistake of letting my feet fly up as the fall started. Which meant they weren't on the footplates when the brake run started. Which meant the only thing stopping me carrying on downwards was the "saddle". Imagine a 4g braking moment acting on your family jewels. Ow.

Tower of Terror is the same at both parks. Good fun and good optical illusions.

wavey Hey FiF, long time no speak! Hope you are well.

It was me that said the Hulk - turned me a pretty nasty shade of green, but I was only young at the time. Would like to have another go on it, to see if I fare any better...

Oakwood in West Wales has had a beyond vertical coaster like that new saw one at Thorpe Park for a few years now. It's a lot better to ride than it looks, definitely one of my favourites.

Yep. That's "speed" - pretty good ride, and I dont know what the difference is between that and the one at Thorpe Park.
O/T but I have to say with all these high tech coasters, there is still a great deal of fun to be had from a good wooden coaster...

Moving near to Thorpe soon, weyhey!

Looking forward to it! Planning a London house-boat-warming party weekend, so that will sure as hell cut the wheat from the chaff, LOL! Space is kind of limited, so anyone not prepared to ride that one is instantly out of the late night boatie one. Cheers!

Hey up young Norbs. wavey back.

I'm OK in RL even if extremely busy, though wondering about the IK server... frown

Might be a final excuse to give up. More trouble than worth at times.

Not quite. wink

King Soloman's Mines ride at Pleasureland was origonally at Frontierland in Morcombe (it opened in 1960) but was moved to Southport when the Morcombe closed.

Still it was built and designed by Blackpool Pleasure Beach, just as they had with the Wild Mouse.
Its a different era of ride design - 'if its too scary they dont have to ride it.' compared to todays 'if its too scary, we'll reprofile it to make it less scary' ie the Big Ones reprofiled first drop

We're going to Thorpe Park at the end of April - looking forward to the new ride!

My bro and I do like our rollercoasters, that's for sure.

I must say though, still - Nemesis takes some beating. As an all round coaster, it's superb. Others may offer higher g's etc, but it's just a great great ride.

Stealth is addictive. I remember the first time I went on it - I thought "this won't be so bad, I've been in some mega quick cars". And then WHAM. I, quite genuinely, swore as it went! I NEVER do that on coasters, I just enjoy them smile

As much fun is working out how they work too smile

Never knew that Big One at Blackpoo had been reprofiled because riders had complained the ride was too rough. wtf? That is what makes some rides, the feeling that it is on the edge.
