Thinking Rwanda is a st hole country is just a racist dog whistle.
Who’s said that ?
Andy_s did.

And it really says a lot about how he thinks.
rofl Like auto-turrets belt-fed from the Guardian had a baby with Mystic Meg, never fails.

At least someone got the joke, there's hope yet for the country. Rwanda is a nice place in the context of sub-Saharan Africa, unless you visit the school house full of skulls, decent coffee too. I dunno, if I was bombed out of Idlib I'd be happy there at least, although the health service is a bit bleak as all the good doctors emigrate to the UK. Be a bit disappointed if I was an aspiring machete-wielder though, competition is a bit tougher in this neck of the woods, you may go to jail and all sorts.

--

I'm off to my safe space now, don't say anything rude as it's bad for my mental health and I may have to tik-toc something about it.

The thread title needs to changing to

No UK asylum seekers expected to be flown to Rwanda

Rishi has said there will not be any planes taking off before the election and Labour have said they'll scrap it as soon as they get into office.

There is at least £250m wasted, possibly up to £500m depending on what the agreements have promised and whether Labour can get out of them. Also an entire year of parliamentary time and so much political capital for precisely nothing, meanwhile the NHS is still fked, the water industry is looking for an extra 50% on bills to stop st being pumped into our rivers, and there has been no progress on levelling up with most of the money still unspent.

Marvellous. What a great success. biggrin

Remember, for more of the same, Vote Tory on July 4th. For something else, vote anyone else!!

You’re talking about pennies compared to the bigger picture. £5.4bn a year on housing then in hotels. Absolutely eye watering amounts being spent and will only get bigger as thiusabds more will arrive this summer. Not that Rishi will care but what is labours plan?

Probably something more sensible than the ludicrous Rwanda plan. What really gets to me is that all that time wasted on the Rwanda plan, and the boats are still coming here.

So this is an additional half a billion on top of that... You're not making a good argument here.

Willing to bet Labours plan will be something along the lines of process them and deal with them in accordance with UK and international law

Sorry if that sounds too rational, it will if you liked the Tory solution of "do nothing so the problem becomes big enough for extremist political goal scoring".

In which case they need to be processed faster! There were more asylum applications in circa 2000/2001 when we didn't have this enormous backlog of people. Also, people who have had their claims rejected should be repatriated faster. Again, in the past this wasn't such an issue.

The problems are here. Are of the UK's own making.

Anyway, it's never going to happen, so it remains a complete waste of money, and of political capital.

Thanks to the Illegal Migration Act, anyone arriving via irregular methods (small boats, hidden in the back of a lorry, etc) won't ever have their case processed - their claim is automatically declared inadmissible. The only options for them are either indefinite detention, return to their own country or removal to a "safe third country".
So we'll be paying to house them indefinitely, thanks to this stupid piece of legislation.

I’m looking forward to seeing that in action as currently it’s a massive expense that could be used far better elsewhere.

Not true, they're all assessed and most (>95% iirc) of them are accepted as legitimate asylum applications and processed. It's another pretend policy that just makes the system less efficient and achieves nothing.

I do find this puzzling. The current government have created an absolute stshow with this Rwanda policy, and spunked our hard earned tax money in the process. Rather than debate the merits of what they are doing and what they should do better, the response is that the other lot would be worse?? How bad do things have to get for you to admit how ill conceived and a waste of money this idea actually is?

Pretty sure they won't, since they've already said they'll process the claims. I wonder how many more times we'll see this lie over the next six weeks.

Won't take long to find out the truth will it? Should be simple enough for them to rule it out in their manifesto.

Lies are all they have left given the absolute dogs breakfast the Tories have made of it.

Does show how scared and desperate they are.
