I guess they had nowhere else to go after so many staff and presenters openly and behind the scenes made strong complaints about hiring one of trumps election deniers

In a message to staff, NBC's Cesar Conde announces that Ronna McDaniel will not be an NBC News contributor.

"No organization, particularly a newsroom, can succeed unless it is cohesive and aligned … It has become clear that this appointment undermines that goal."

Standard trump, attacked her after the news broke. Remember she was one of his allies, but fell out after she said the RNC didn't have money to pay his legal bills. He's the reason she was unemployed.

Michael Cohen: "I want to thank Judge Merchan for imposing the gag order as I have been under relentless assault from Donald's MAGA supporters. Nevertheless, knowing Donald as well as I do, he will seek to defy the gag order by employing others within his circle to do his bidding; regardless of consequence."

I don't think the Judge had any choice. trump had started just hours before attacking everyone, including the Judges daughter

The ruling was handed down hours after trump blasted the judge, the judge's daughter, Bragg and former trump lawyer Michael Cohen, a key witness in the case, on his social media platform Truth Social. The post referred to Cohen as a "liar and felon," and also referred to a former prosecutor in the case, Mark Pomerantz, as a "dirtbag lawyer."

He called Judge Merchan "a true and certified trump Hater who suffers from a very serious case of trump Derangement Syndrome." and "His daughter is a senior executive at a Super Liberal Democrat firm that works for Adam 'Shifty' Schiff, the Democrat National Committee, (Dem)Senate Majority PAC, and even Crooked Joe Biden."

GOP have lost a state house seat to the Dem candidate - in Alabama!
She won with a 30 point lead!

https://alabamareflector.com/2024/03/26/marilyn-la...

Polls showed Powell winning 47.7%-36.8%.

Edit: Wait - it gets better
David Cole (R) won this seat in 2022 by 7 points. Cole resigned last August after he was charged with voter fraud. biggrin

Dems have sent a letter to Republicans on the Oversight Committee asking for an investigation into Kushner.

“This Committee cannot claim to be ‘investigating foreign nationals’ attempts to target and coerce high-ranking U.S. officials’ family members by providing money or other benefits in exchange for certain actions while continuing to ignore these matters. We therefore urge you to work with us to finally investigate Mr. Kushner’s receipt of billions of dollars from foreign governments in deals that appear to be quid pro quos for actions he undertook as senior White House adviser in Donald Trump’s Administration,”

Kari Lake won't defend herself in the defamation case against her brought by Stephen Richer, the Republican election official in Maricopa County who ran the county election in 2022. Lake had continuously accused him of election fraud to stop her from winning

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/kar...

Richer makes the point that as with many of her other court cases, she's been found to have no evidence to back her claims

Bit like the lawyer in the NY criminal case on monday.

Threw out all sorts of comments but when asked for evidence just shrugged his shoulders.

FFS, fking tablet. you write the write stuff then it thinks it knows better as you hit submit.
TBH Byker, the amount of work you've put into these threads should mean the PH membership buy you a new tablet so you can keep posting and getting us all up to date.

As to the miss-spellings your current device throws up, I find it quite charming and it's become my daily go-to instead of Wordle, trying to work out what you were actually hoping to post!

Regarding trump and his latest delays, it's really frustrating that we seem to be no nearer to something that evens the balance after his life of grifting and getting away with it. I know CGT2 is seeing the long game, but I can also see the despondency of LF5335 .

It's still only a lower amount, in order to qualify for an appeal, into the amount that he had to pay for the fine.

He's still guilty of fraud

He still has to pay the fine

Absolute best case for him, the fine is lower.

He'll still be paying out hundreds of millions.

Worst case, the fine gets higher.

M.
Never in a million years will he ever pay the fine.
Then his assets will be seized
They really won't.

As ever, legally that should be the process but it's Trump and it won't happen.
How does he avoid it please?
The US justice system is corrupt and if you're rich and famous and infinitely so if you've been President then they do nothing. As they have been doing nothing all along.

Just like subpoenas mean absolutely nothing if you just ignore them, bonds/fines/asset seizures mean nothing if you appeal and obfuscate and whine on social media to whip up your annoying base and you're rich and famous enough to just never bother.

People are so sure all of these things that are adding up are going to get him but until the day they actually do what they say and take his buildings then he's getting off scot free.

He consistently defames and slanders people he's been told and fined repeatedly not to because they won't do anything. I don't know why those who are so steadfast in believing the law will actually get him can't see they're not gonna get him.

I'd love to believe they're building an airtight case that takes forever but I don't have any faith in them whatsoever given just how many criminals and morally bankrupt people are in positions of power in the US.

What? The bond has been reduced - and the deadline to pay it extended - to make it easier for him to appeal the judgement.

If they wanted to 'facilitate collection' they'd have begun seizing his assets yesterday.

Your optimism is verging on the unhinged in the face of what is actually happening on the ground.
As I understand it you don't have to pay the bond to appeal.

All it does is stop the properties being confiscated while he appeals. If they started confiscating his properties he could still appeal,

Either way when the appeals process is exhausted they now have a pot of money rather than no money.. if the appeal doesn't reduce the fine (which is all he is appealing) then they can go after the properties for the rest.

I agree, they were never going to realise the 400 odd million fine. It would all be taken in tax when the properties were sold.

If you can't comprehend the above I don't know what more to say. The judgment stands and the interest ticks up.

If you fail to understand the above do you feel that getting into personal insults benefits you, I, or anyone else here?

Apart from a couple of knowledgeable posters here, Mortarboard in particular, with a grasp of how these things actually work in the real world it is simply too hard to repeatedly explain things time after time.
I'm not interested in your repeated explanations, because so far they've proven to be massively overhyped. Your views are as much a broken record as those of the posters you so arrogantly dismiss.

They'll have a pot of someone else's money, not Trump's.

Yes in theory he'll owe it to some business or other but we all know how he handles those debts. Ultmately I'd rather they had Trump himself on the hook for the full 450M. This feels like a massive let-off, and plenty of commentariat lawyers agree. One described it as a 'travesty of justice'.

Hard disagree.

One point of view is informed by knowledge of the law and due process.

The other is informed by the media and their utterly contemptible and entirely self serving "OMG TRUMP OH NOES" coverage
