oth I'd bet.
Amazon are launching the first automated store in the US very soon. No staff. A one store trial, so not exactly going the whole hog. And they're arguably the most innovative business there is right now.
To think the Co-op, Sports Direct or Lincoln County Council are even on the same page seems slightly optimistic (or pessimistic) to me.
Oh, and if the news you're referring to is this by Oxford Uni and Deloitte https://www.rt.com/uk/364074-automation-robots-ai-... it's 1m jobs, not 15m and they make the point that automation so far has created more than it's displaced.
This idea that in a decade machines are going to run the country and the government will pay us not to work is utterly mental.
I think that this is one of those explosive models though. If Amazon can find a way to run a store with a single staff member whilst making profit, they can expand that model as fast as money will allow. Even today- who really uses normal checkouts unless they have a trolley? All of a sudden, everyone who doesn't adapt will be running at a 4 x minimum wage loss. That might make a big difference!Amazon are launching the first automated store in the US very soon. No staff. A one store trial, so not exactly going the whole hog. If you don't have anything left after paying out for housing and food you can't - not everybody who lives on or under the breadline is sat staring at a 50" TV and smoking 40 a day. Do you take your entire view of the low paid from the pages of the Daily Mail out of interest?
No I just come from Doncaster so have a first hand view of the "poor".r11co said:
I said a page ago that this was a discussion deserving of its own thread and I've since been proved right.
Mods - can we split this to another topic because SR/I has been well and truly derailed.
+1 First agreement of the NY. Can all "basic income" pojnts be directed to last years specific threads on the subjects please?Mods - can we split this to another topic because SR/I has been well and truly derailed.

I was just reading some of the comments after that article, some of the unionist comments aren't great, but the nationalists take the hatred to another level. I saw one who suggested nobody who voted no should be allowed to vote again, and at least one who said nobody who's English should be allowed to vote. Some fairly vile comments, hopefully some will be removed. How anyone thinks Scotland can ever come together as a nation is beyond me.Alpacaman said:

Scotland is a wee bitter twisted pox on the arse of civilisation. And of course many of its inhabitants are wonderful people.
It is the large minority that make it a reeking gasbag of arse gravy.
The current Mrs T is English - The vitriol she experienced when last in Scotland - puts Scotland to shame.
And let us not forget the "What school did you go to" culture that central Scotland indoctrinates into the kids.
And the accepted cauldron of Protestant and Catholic hatred that are the old firms games.
Scotland like many other countries was tribal.
Scotland just got stuck in the rut 200 years before the rest of civilisation started to move on.
I am glad I moved out. I don't think I could ever move back.
Scotland can be a welcome friendly place. Unfortunately far too small minded people intent on English and religious hatred are far too commonplace.
One less bitter, bigoted and angry old man? Is it really that much of a loss to society as a whole, excepting his friends and family?
I have no issue with anyone wanting independance, but go into it with your eyes open, a real plan and for positive reasons.
For me the SNP have never had any of those.

It's the utter blind rage I don't understand, the comments about living under a jackboot and wanting to be independent so they have the same rights and freedom as other countries. I am not quite sure what rights he thinks the rest of the UK has that Scotland doesn't and I can't remember the last time the English storm troopers marched through Edinburgh oppressing the poor down trodden Scots (it must be weeks now). They just seem to live in an alternative universe, where their only sources of information are Wings over Somerset, the National and Nicola Sturgeons Facebook page!
As Trouble says above - some people must just be stuck a few centuries behind us. It isn't helped by all the Yessers' misinformation about Scotland being the richest country in the world and England draining our public services by draining many billions per year, etc. People with neither the desire nor skillset to seek out the truth will happily reinforce their beliefs.

Funny how it doesn't feature the latest video from Govanhill I saw the other day. Rubbish piled everywhere, people sleeping in bin sheds and human ste in the back courts.I think if you're 'representing' a constituency there should be a rule you have to live in it for the duration. Even though that would inevitably place her in Pollokshields I'd suffer the chance of bumping into her on a dark night if it meant she was forced to sort the situation out.
It's quite literally a disgrace. Aleppo is in better nick.

Mind you she has been busy rattling on about something else for six years. It's no surprise neither is any further forward. What a waste of fking oxygen she is.

She's had six years since that was taken. It's a lot worse now.
Apparently it's Westmins.... err, I mean Glasgow City Council's fault. It will be interesting to see who or what gets the blame for it when Labour finally get the bum's rush from GCC and it is still a stehole a year later.
Brexit probably.
