God I hate adverts with that sort of twaddle in it. A paragraph full of buzzwords which doesn't actually say anything.
I'm surprised you're surprised, given that "Iguazu are an established and expanding design and marketing agency"

Also, shouldn't it read "Iguazu IS an established and expanding design and marketing agency"?

I assume that the requirements listed in the job advert under discussion can be met by a number of potential candidates, and that the advertisement has appeared in all the appropriate places?

That being the case there can only be one reason why it has not attracted suitable candidates. The salary.

I, too, have an interview. On Friday! I got knocked back for a role I thought I was perfect for, looking at the job spec. I e-mailed for some feedback and got this e-mail...

"Hi Paul

Thank you for contacting us about your recent application. I have had another look at your CV and also discussed this with the recruiting manager. Unfortunately it is not clear why you were originally declined and I can only pass on my apologies. Having reviewed your details against the criteria for the role, I can see that you do have some of the qualities and experience we are looking for.

I have forwarded your details on to my colleague Tania who will be in touch to arrange an interview with you shortly."

"some of"!?! Cheeky mare!

I'm well chuffed. Seems like a great employer.
Good luck!

just gotta nail that interview now smile good thing is youve already beaten 000's getting this far, so go for it smilesmile

Places like that make fantastic looking adverts, but after reading a whole A4 page worth of words you sit back and realise it hasn't really told you what the job actually is.

yeah, I guess it really should...though I could argue we're a group of people as well as an entity!

So....tossy top paragraph not liked..yeah fair do's, it is all a bit fluffy nonsense....except we do actually say what we are - should we be more explicit "we build websites, apps for ipads, iphones and android devices...etc etc?"

salary is too low, i agree, I think we'll offer the position at 20-25 (to be fair the original ad which didnt get much response was almost identical, but for a senior designer, required them do things this ad claims they'll develop, and was for 35-40k)

Iguazu are an established and expanding design and marketing agency with a track record of delivering innovation to their clients. Constantly raising the bar creating cutting edge digital solutions, this is a chance to become a key team member and join a friendly team of strategic thinkers, creative minds and technical specialists.

We are looking for a new designer to join our Teddington team. We want someone who feels confident enough to make their mark as part of a team. You will have a true passion for design, especially for the web, smartphones and tablets. You will develop the skills of solving client problems with unique creative ideas and delivering within budget and timeframes.

If you're happy to be told what to do without having your say, then you won’t be interested in our job. But if you want to push yourself and your design skills so that they are seen around the globe, then this is a perfect opportunity to shine.

Your skills will include:

• Strong visual design skills (layout, hierarchy, typography, patterns)
• Fanatical attention to detail
• Some experience using the usual stable of webdesign software – and an understanding of standards such as HTML 4/5, XHTML, JavaScript, JQuery and CSS 2/3
• An understanding of web accessibility and web usability guidelines and constraints
• Solid communication skills in English, both written and verbal
• The ability to work in a team and independently
• A positive attitude and strong work ethic.
• Able to handle a fast paced work environment while juggling several different tasks
• Good hygiene

All candidates will be required to provide a strong portfolio to showcase their design skills

Salary: £15k - £20k (depending on experience)
Good hygiene?!?!? I have NEVER seen this before in advert. Have you been prone to hiring unwashed slobs in the past? What made you feel you had to make a specific note of it in the job spec?

EG. My niece, single mum, works a full time job yet takes home just £20 a week more than she would if she simply gave up and bludged.

In fact the 'dole' adviser guy recommended she simply stay at home and claim everything she could!?!?!

She's dumb, because she married a total loser, who left after their daughter was born, but she is also dedicated, as she has not been out of work more than a few months in the last ten years or more.

It does if you don't have kids hehe

Our youngest isn't in nursery 5 days a week since my wife is part time, but if he was...it would cost slightly more per month than a brand new 535D. Indeed, could probably get a remap with the change wink

ETA: It's far from the most expensive nursery round here either.

I wish some of my previous employers had made this clear, then I'd noty have had to work with so many smelly techies!

I took on a guy who stank at his interview once. Our first sit down on his forst day was interesting!

yeah......I must admit I wouldnt have added it in...but then Ive had a fairly bad habit of only employing young ladies in the past.

Im afraid that Potholes example was quoted to me by several people as to WHY we needed to put this in a job advert for what was likely to end up being a young male techie.....

surprised me too!
