For anyone who does twitter, follow this chap @Libyanpilot. He was until 3 weeks ago, a pilot with Afriqyah and was given daily/hourly updates on the situation in Tripoli at the time of the invasion of the airport. Him and his colleagues managed to get 2 planes safely to Malta.
This is just scaremongering. No planes were stolen. Planes that werent removed from the airport were destroyed by the terrorists.
That's what I understood as well. Pilots for LAA and Afriqyah braved the fighting to get some planes off the ground and out of the country on the basis that, if the fighting ever stops, they're more likely to have a job and an airline if they've got some planes left.This is just scaremongering. No planes were stolen. Planes that werent removed from the airport were destroyed by the terrorists.

Most of the planes left behind, together with the terminal building, look to have been destroyed.
(Mind you Tripoli airport was a pretty hideous 1970's construction so not a big loss unless you need to use it or work there).

Nuclear plants could take a hit from a jumbo jet. Those are fked up from the inside.
That surprises me, as some 10' waves and a bit of a shake utterly fked a Japanese nuclear facility. I would have thought a 747 landing on one would be at least a tad worrying. tenpenceshort said:

Although it was a 10ft wave the size of a country.....Most nuclear power plants have walls like this;

Actually it survived the earthquake and tsunami, what took it out was its emergency generators being taken out so there was no power to lift the fuel rods out of the core. Aim the plane to take out the incoming power and back up generators and you are probably onto a winner.jurbie said:

those aren't stored outside but behind very thick walls, you'd need a special bunker buster bombs to break those, jumbo jet would just disintegrate on impact without affecting the plantMagog said:
Maybe the Caliphate is setting up a flag carrier.
...and good luck to our more lanky chums with complaining about the legroom in economy on AirIsil.Having the CSD hack your legs off below the knee for having the temerity to complain about the seat pitch will probably take your minds off the fact the airliner is shortly going to slam into some symbol of Western decadence at 500mph.

Saudi?
Yes, there are sects of Islamic extremists who hate Saud. Depends on who they are. Remember, these nuts were killing each other long before us.Saudi oilfields are an economic target that would cause much disruption to Western economies if hit, just by optics alone. Saud is on the TV constantly warning of US/Euro attacks by ISIS; or are you of the school that they are behind all of this?
