Simple solution (hehe) then.
Make them have bitter cups of tea and turn the boiler down a bit.

I have an odd idea in my head of what a modern prison is like.
A place where you can't just wander around, get a bucket and some sugar and go fill it with hot water.

Nah, the lefties would never wear it - I mean you can't go round making prison worse than their home backgrounds can you. Against their human rights don't you know...

I actually just finished reading Noel Smiths two books. They're not exactly a glorification of crime or prison and are actually pretty good. They also tell the tale of his successful rehabilitation from a violent armed robber into writer, so they're perhaps pretty good reading material for violent prisoners. Unfortunate that this idiot got the 'recipe' from one of them but as I recall it's half a jug of sugar topped up with boiling water so it's hardly a state secret.
I'm sure you are correct but I think a person like you may well focus on the 'good' parts while a psycho like this guy will focus and learn from the bad parts.
