I think we are about to see a classic battle strategy unfold in Kharkiv.
You create a vacuum that the enemy rushes in to fill.
You then pound the crap out of them from all sides.
I fear that what we are about to see is what the Russians always do, get close enough to use artillery and then gradually pound the city to rubble.
I'm afraid I think that too. frown

I've read pretty reliable people say Russia is unlikely to be able to capture it, but they can certainly reduce it to rubble.

Creating refugees is just part of the plan.
Sadly that is likely to happen, but such is life and war, if it was Israelis not Russia that would be a huge issue

From what the British volunteer soldier "Bic Mac' says in his Battle Blog on YouTube its plastic explosives that's now starting to come in shorter and shorter supply for making drone munitions. And as he wisely says his role as a drone munitions facilitator shouldn't be seen as a critical role in this war - mortars and artillery rounds are however, I mean drone operators are successful but they're mostly taking out single soldiers, and the mortar and artillery rounds have almost ran out where he's based.

As he says in his "Drums from the Deep" ( a nod to the mines of moria in Lord of the Rings) YouTube rant he says im just a soldier but even i know when thrings are going bad, we're becoming surrounded and we have limited means now to defend ourselves. We'll give them a good fight when they do push jnto the city but they will raze Kherson and keep on rolling UNLESS we get the bigger munitions and plastic explosives ( for his drone munitions) ASAP. Hr says you might think he shouldn't be giving out this info for russian intel but he said its painfully obvious the russians know the ukies are short on artillery rounds and mortar rounds becauses of the near silence from the Ukrainian side in Kherson compared to the near constant Russian barrages.

He says "we need mortar and artillery rounds NOW, not tomorrow, not next week or next month or next year like the F-16s, we need them now. Khersons defensive positions have been built deliberately with the intention that the Ukies know the city will fall."

He's a Brit volunteer and these are his opinions and experiences so it is subjective but objectively the Ukrainian Army is low on just about everything now. but he's done a lot of fighting and he's been there since day one. He's shifted more from fighting to making drone munitions and operating them. He believes the Ukrainians are preparing to lose more than Kherson, because how the defensive positions have been built show what the defenders intend to hold onto but thats another story.

Unfortunately an error in miscommunication and translation.

They will be delivered within months, and an announcement is likely to be next month with a more accurate timeframe.
Quite possible, lots of countries with different languages involved.
I think it is expected there will only be 6 or 8 when they do get them iniitally. Probably a combination of amount of trained crew, maintenance capability and having them dispersed. Imagine they’ve built some serious hangars for them

I guess if you are one of the top guys that signs stuff off, putin is going to remember your name, would lead to a few sleepless nights I guess

Whole thing makes me sick

Push, pull or get out of the way.

If you don;t have the minerals for the job, you shouldn't be in the role. Full stop.

Quite, if you are in the top seats then you should always know that a visit from cathedral enthusiasts is a possibility... it's why these people get a protection detail.

Kherson isn't generally in the news facing sustained russian attacks as it's mainly been in the east and now obviously in the north. Interesting that if so.

The question is if Russia roll in properly and end up taking most of the country, how does this reflect on the rest of the world. Will they stop there or will it be too late and the west will suddenly find their main defensive position is breached?

There is almost no risk of Russia taking on Europe or a nato state in general. But I think we in the west would sit back and let them roll over Georgia and other non nato members

Did some digging and found the video the redditor I quoted above was referring to.

Obviously this is just one soldier's assessment but if what he's saying is accurate...

What do you mean "roll in properly"? Do you think they've lost almost 16,000 tanks, AFV/APCs, artillery, trucks, helicopters, planes etc but they aren't even trying yet?

I don't think halo34 meant "roll in properly" as in break out the Gucci kit, rather, I suspect he meant rolling in properly as in, taking more chunks of Ukraine.

I can tell you're just itching for a scrap rolleyes

The Ukrainians are really struggling to hold off the Russians at various points. It doesn't take too much imagination to envision the logical conclusion of that.
