Just arrived via email and irritated me...

It’s more bad news for car owners, as the latest economic downturn is predicted to hit used car prices by up to as much as 10%. In last week’s Sunday Mirror industry expert, Quentin Wilson has said, “November will be the cruellest month. With this week’s deadly economic prognosis, used car buying is about to fall off a cliff.
The last quarter of 2011 will see values drop by at least 6 per cent, possibly even up to 10 per cent. So if like me, you’re concerned how much value you car’s going to lose, my advice is: get out now.”
Shameless bloody advertising. I doubt very much whether Quentin Wilson has any inside understanding of the EuroZone crisis and it's potential impact on the used car market. Just seems like unecessary scare-mongering to me...humph.

I mean, honestly Quentin...so I "get out" of the risky market that is my used car...then what. fking cycle everywhere?! No, I get into another car on which I'll doubtless spend more then be right back at square fking one. You dozy prick. Industry expert, Daily Mirror. MY ARSE.

So, WBAC want to buy before prices drop?
Then have more stock, now worth less, as "used car buying is about to fall off a cliff?

I don't see any logic in getting at Quentin.

Something he has written in a article has been taken without any of the surrounding context and used by another company to meet a desired agenda.

Take umbrage with the advertiser.

Not since he banged on about not buying fuel from supermarkets.

I get the impression his opinion is for sale to anybody

Just dug this out of my out-box.

Supply issues could drive used car values up. Clicky

"The last quarter of 2011 will see values drop by at least 6 per cent".

2-3% per month in Oct/Nov & Dec, this QW guy is a real genius...hope someone isnt spending buckets of money on these pearls of wisdom.

How is it 'bad news' for car owners. If I don't sell, doesn't matter what the value is. If I'm changing the car, the newer one will fall in price too. It sounds like good news to me.

Now that most newish cars are on PCP ( ponzi car purchase ) with a garanteed future value who is going to be selling their car anyway? They will just hand it back and start again! wink

I have been browsing the market for a while and have noticed prices of quite a lot of stuff has started to fall quite a bit in the last month or two. However, it is probably like the housing market where a buyers market means the top notch stuff retains strong demand and the dregs are much harder to shift.

Depends on what your intentions are.

Say you have a car worth £5 and want to buy a car costing £10k. That's £5k to change.
If prices across the board fall 20% then your car is worth £4k and the car you want to buy is £8k. It not costs £4k to change. You have saved £1,000!

It's not good news if you just want to sell to realise some cash or trade down etc................
