I was reading an article that suggested Jeb Bush could be a future presidential nominee.

I haven't thought about it in too much depth but something doesn't sit right with me that potentially a father and both of his sons can hold the most powerful position in the USA.

What are the odds that 3 men from the same family are considered the 'best man for the job' in a country with a population of over 300million?

Tbh, what are the odds that one of them was/is? Not that it's any different in most countries, but not much in politics seems to be based on actual ability.

Once one has done so, name recognition alone becomes a "foot in the door". Like any product, brand recognition is a first step.

Indeed. The Kennedys' would have done it if they didn't keep getting assassinated, plus if one of them wasn't a complete frack-up.
If they had a decent Kennedy now he would probably be wheeled out.

It seems about as unlikely as in F1,

  • Graham Hill - Damon Hill
  • Micheal Schumacher - Ralph Schumacher
  • Keke Rosberg - Nico Rosberg
  • Ayrton Senna - Bruno Senna
  • Nelson Piquet - Nelson Piquet Jnr
Or in the US presidency,

  • John Adams - John Quincy Adams
  • William Harrison - Benjamin Harrison
  • Theodore Roosevelt - Franklin D Roosevelt
  • George Bush - George W Bush
You just wait until Tony Blair's kids are standing for election....

Whilst I'm happily of the opinion that for the sake of humanity, the entire Blair clan should be slaughtered. You only have to look at the Kinnocks, and how they helped wean their children off the teat and straight onto the trough of the EUSSR gravy train, to see what’s going to happen with the traitorous war criminal and his incredibly repugnant wife's children

Your not suggesting its a money thing connecting F1 drivers to their career, same as Presidential Candidates;) Worrysome that the U.K. follows however America conducts political business, already we are seeing the seeds of 'razzmatazz'in our General Elections. Watered down politics showered in glitz. Wonder if anyone in here will agree, its a downward trend of dumbing down politics scratchchin

British Politics has been ever more dumbed down since 1832.

Well, Oliver Cromwell fought long and hard to rid this country of the political nepotism of the monarchy and then promptly appointed his son, his successor! biggrin

Excellent response! Perhaps we can get a good discount if we book in together?

I have read many horrifying things on PH but this is quite possibly the worst.

But like Julius Caeser he was at least smart enough not to take the title of King.

Jeb by the way was always supposed to be presidential candidate of the family I believe. I can't remember the story why he didn't run but W did but in doing so Jeb was supposed to support his brother anyway he could. Which judging by the result may have been exactly what he did.

Didn't his daughter run into a little trouble with the drugs squad? We were in Daytona when George W flew down to support him. A lot of men in suits with wiggly earpieces took over the hotel. Had a boot full of bottled water for the mechanics. Sniffer dogs licked EVERY bottle top.

Lots of actors kids follow their parents, would imagine it's part up bringing and part connections.

I don't think it's really comparable.

Politicians have speech writers, and campaign advisors. Race car drivers don't have stunt doubles. They have to do the hard stuff all by themselves.
Also the above lists are only comparable if all the drivers are world champions. Many families have sibling in the same industry. But to get to be numbero uno, is something else.biggrin

Same with the Kennedys, JFK was not his father's original choice. Joe Jr. was the pick for the White House until his plane exploded in WWII.

Jeb's Hispanic son will be the favorite at that point. He is in the wings.
