It seems as if the Obama administration is digging out blind to roll out the red carpet for Camerons visit over the next 3 days. Joint press articles in the Washington Post, talking of a very special and essential relationship. Trip to a Basketball game, Cameron will also be the first foreign leader who will ever accompany a US president on Air Force One.

So it's clearly an election year PR trip for Obama but it has got to be a massive PR coup for Cameron. After all I don't remember Blair or Brown being welcomed quite so warmly. Also it must surely send a very strong message to Argentina (Don't mess with me Cristina, or I'll get my mate to help beat you up).

It is clearly in both of their interests to be jolly good chums at the moment.

How does it go? "with friends like that, who needs enemies?"

Would the American electorate really care?

Americans couldn't care less, and it's hardly a PR coup because few here give a toss about being best mates with America.

You'd have thought not but judging from my friday night skype sessions there is quite a bit if support behind the notion "he's buttfking our best friends"

America is concerned not only about China but the EU.

The UK is the major thorn in the side of the EU as whilst we play by their rules we still seem to keep beating them one way or another.

US likes to be seen to be close with UK as it keeps the continentals honest.

UK likes to be seen with US as it makes us think that we still matter and also gives us the potential back up to stand up to the EU.

It is all just first tier politics.

At a guess I'd say we were the best of mates and will remain so for as long as we agree to arrest and extradite students (almost) operating lawfully in this country - so it's said - along with vulnerable ASD types and the occasional pensioner.

Gordo must be sitting at home in Kirkcaldy seething. He got a lukewarm reception at the White House and a dvd collection whilst Dave gets to ride on Air Force One.

Political move.
An effort to show he is on top of foreign stuff and has friends.
Democrats generally are not so "pro UK". This Guy in particular.

However, the American voting public are very happy with UK and think it is a wonderful place.
