I'm sure I read something very similar to this in a Chris Ryan/Andy McNab book

That it was a rehearsed plan, that was only lacking a final go from the PM, is no surprise, it's certainly in the best David Stirling tradition of the WW2 western desert, or for that matter the best traditions of St Nazaire, Cockellshell heroes, x craft etc, etc.

It makes me proud to think we still possess the daring do in this country!

There was a documentary that touched on this a few years ago. It focused on the efforts the French were going to in order to sell Exocets to Argentina and what our security services were doing to scupper them. I believe the SAS raid was meant to be a last gasp if all else fails kind of thing but in the end didn't happen because the French were unable to deliver any further Exocets.

This was mentioned on "Great SAS Missions" on the "Yesteday" channel funnily enough.....yesterday. The mission was scrubbed at the last minute. However they did do another raid on another airfield the Argentinians were using and wrecked all 11 aircraft scattered across the airfield. Only one SAS member was injured and they all got out. Great stuff indeed. Balls of steel.

Bad news for you chum, we don't, it was 30 years ago and we didn't do it then.
