Christopher Tappin extradition
Discussion
So, can anyone explain, in simple terms for a tired (thick) PHer, why Christopher Tappin ended up being extradited for his exports to Iran?
If he is breaking UK sanctions, then surely face charges here, if breaking US sanctions then so what? Or is there a treaty (other than the extradition treaty, natch) designed to prevent UK citizens/companies breaking US sanctions?
Maybe it's because the goods/trade was somehow through, or linked to, the USA?

It's not just sanctions - break any US law and you're likely to be extradited. The same does apply the other way around, but the US requires some examination of the evidence first, whereas ours is a more cursory check. Hence the complaints.

But if you're in the UK when you break a US law? How far does this go - I'd imagine there all sorts of US laws you could break whilst not doing anything illegal in the UK?The same does apply the other way around, but the US requires some examination of the evidence first, whereas ours is a more cursory check.
