1.5 million individual details sold by the DVLA to private parking companies enabling them to rake in £150 million.

Alternative was clamping which gladly is now outlawed.
But even so, that's some revenue being generated from the willingness of motorists to pay up on such civil matters.

“Most drivers who receive a private parking ticket through the post regard them as a scam and they are also very surprised that a government agency gives this vehicle keeper information to companies by the million for a fee.”

Meanwhile the DVLA, which charges £2.50 a time for parking companies to access its database of drivers, will have collected £3.6 million in fees from the companies.

My mother was clobbered by Parking Eye while shopping at The Range outside Truro. I think it was a 2 hour maximum stay and she was there for 2 hours 40 or so. Shes 70, not the quickest mover and had been in buying stuff for her new house. 25 or so items hence the time.

She went back to the shop when she got ticket and took the receipt but despite the not inconsiderable amount she had spent there the they couldnt have been less helpful.

All the online forums said ignore but it was just after the ruling last autumn which almost implied some legitimacy to Parking Eye and their ilk and not wanting a battle she just paid.

I was hit with some parking tickets in the past. I think if i knew then what i knew now, id of happily ignored them. They are the highest of scum, i think i read somewhere about the fine being equal to the time overstayed from them catching you, so 75 pounds does not equal 1 pound per hour.

It's not always that easy just to ignore them. The estate where I live employs a PPC to patrol and ticket and my ex neighbors have been fighting them for well over a year now and spent over £10K so far.
