Yes, I believe they do.

I've nothing against people getting rich through capitalism, but I believe many in the City now have a distorted view of the world, are particularly arrogant and don't really contribute much to society in general. A large percentage of city types need bringing down to earth.

And I'm also sick of their hangers on and wannabes who always back them up with stupid comments like 'fair play to them' and 'they earn more than you so must be doing something right' sort of thing.

Yes, I can't help but think that the views of the City are over-represented on PH.

Did you fail to get a job in merchant banking?

Do you have any idea of the concept of how much trade goes through London?

Regulation is however important, when money is at stake rules are bent. I also believe that the Fit and Proper person test should be interpreted more strictly, and that removing people from FSA registration should be more frequently undertaken for substantive breaches and it should be permanent. That would focus the mind a bit more.

I do, it's historically perhaps the greatest trading city in the world. But I also feel there are far too many 'wkers' who have gotten rich through riding the markets and making money out of nothing - manipulating markets for their own personal gain rather than actually doing anything constructive.

Most dealers work for banks. Which means that they trade for their bank. Manipulation of markets and/or insider dealing are criminal matters? But buying and selling is the name of the game.... Making money out of nothing - not quite. For one bank/trader to make money another must "lose" it. Making money i.e. succeeding can be a thin line between stupidity and skill. There are a lot of very intelligent people who research companies and markets and then the traders can deal from this information. It's not just pure guesswork (though in some cases it can be!).

The % percentage of people who have gotten rich through riding the markets and making money out of nothing is very very very small. The city as well as being one of the trading captials of the world also employ a large amount of young blue collar workers who might if not for these jobs be on the streets.

All those banging on about how much money the city makes for the U.K. seem to be a bit quiet nowadays.

I expect the taxpayer bailout has had something to do with it.

I don't think constructive is what it's about though... What would you expect a trader to do in order to be constructive???

Also the money out of nothing is indicative of your lack of understanding of the subject. It's a zero-sum game afterall.

So. A load of people going to turn up. Some of whom will do criminal damage to property in the City. The firms will claim on their insurance to fix the damage. The insurance companies will want to get that back and will therefore put everyone's premiums up.

This protest - if it turns nasty - isn't going to cost "The City" sweet feck all other than some time today. Time is money I suppose...

But who it will cost CASH is US

The policing operation is costing £7million - but this is slightly disingenuous as the G20 meet is causing at lot of that. Still. The Met firearms guys will be out with Tasers, I read in the Telegraph.

Nice one, lads. Go crisp some crusties if they step out of line.

Peaceful protest, on the other hand, is an important democratic right. Shame they aren't directing their ire at the people who are actually responsible.

The G20 summit is costing at least £8 million to police - thats a conservative extimate I think.

The question is WHY?

Because their scared of terrorists? No, I dont think so.

Because they're scared of the 'irrate electorate'? Much closer to the truth I think.

Do city workers deserve a kicking? No. Do the few pig with thier snouts in the troughs of indecent bonuses and rediculous expenses? Yes. But they wont actually be there.

It's only a zero-sum game if the government doesn't step help to help those on the loosing side.

It's not the "people in the City" who have a distorted view of the world. It's you.

You're asking a Labia candidate about regulating the financial markets of which he will know the root sum of fk all? Don't waste your breath, the troll never engages in discussion on here.

Odious little socialist he is.
