There're 4 pictures in there that worry me:
In one, someone is holding a green placard that says: "Don't cut women out of education"... What?
In another, they've broken into Millibank Tower and some tosser is laid across a glass table like a prized cock.
The arial shot of the placard fire has the comment "Student leaders stress that these demonstrations are only from a 'minority' of the thousands that are at the rally" - Sorry but that looks like a hell of a big minority of riot-like behaviour to me.
And then one just annoys me, the guy with "Thanks for nothing" on his face... He's wearing those f*cking annoying emo-rific 'glasses', that're just plastic frames with no lenses. Where's the "Things that annoy you beyond reason" thread when you need it?!

Just noticed a similar thread running in the News & Politics section with a good viewpoint; bill the student unions for the damage, which in turn will be reclaimed by the students.
Time to crack down on thugs; even if they do have a gap yah.

I listened to the Student Union President this morning and he sounded like you average union leader, all gob and no trousers. I bet he wasn't anywhere near the government building at the time. Though, from what he was saying this morning, it sounded as if he was goading students to act out.
If you don't earn above £21k you don't pay a penny back.
If you earn over £21k you pay back 9% on whatever your salary is, over £21k
An example: A graduate with an obligation of £30,000 and on £25,000 income will contribute £360/year (£6.92/week) (interest on the obligation is charged at RPI+0.6%)
Any grad earning over £41k would have the same deal, but their interest rate would be RPI+3%
An example: A graduate with an obligation of £30,000 and earning £45,000 income, will contribute £2,160/year (£41.54/week)
Can someone explain what it is about that, that is unfair?

Too bloody right...Give us an education system that produces talented, worthy, able, intelligent and willing employees and I will fund it with my own pocket.
Give us worthless half-a-degree courses with zero practicality in the real-world and an expectation that its all going to be free - well, you can sod off.
Scrap the worthless degrees, get a grip on the costs and efficiency of the funding, process and payments for courses and we might have something that is of some use. At the moment, we are paying fortunes into a higher education system that doesnt work. Sorry, but its been broken for some time and Labour only masked it by feeding cash into it to keep it quiet. Now the cash line is stopped, they all bleat on.

No they're real glasses (look at the distortion through the right lens as you look at it), however look at the label on them though (Prada). I'm not sure that tuition fees will actually be worrying him too much.Sigh...
As a student I'm actually depressed by what people think modern university is about. I'm a Comp. Sci. student and most of the people I know (okay, there are some excepetions) are very hard working indeed to get that degree. Engineering students even moreso with their schedule being incredible for some forms! I'm not sure that the rioting part of the demo was a good idea, BUT taking it above what it is now (0.5% above base rate) is stupid and shows the government is trying to turn as much as possible into a business in my view. Not forgetting any degrees this lot got were most likely paid for by the state in the first place.
WRT the SU's paying for the damage, a lot of that is funded by the university anyway so all they'd be doing is charging the government... again. I actually detest the idea of all this destruction, seems pointless when all it's doing is making the politicians want to vidicate us more!

Just handbags being swung around, these people need lessons on how to protest - go to France. We are still civilised in this Country and the Students protests are perhaps the strongest yet that we have seen recently, but that could all change and that's worrying. We do not want the likes of French and Greek protests but I would be surprised if that's not where we may be heading for this Spring.
