I'm wondering how far the North Korean provocation can go before serious retaliation? I don't know if there's South Korean acts that are similar that don't get reported as much but it seems that recently North Korea are really trying to push for some kind of response.

To be fair I'm quite a long way South of there, however SK isn't that big a place overall. There is regularly a bit of sabre rattling apparently but even the locals in the office have all been chatting about it this afternoon.

I fail to realise the understanding of the level of stupidity that South Korea keep displaying.

Why continue to do military exercises so close to North Korea territory?
Why the continuous taunting of a country that will be happy to enter conflict at the slightest hint of aggression?

IMO they deserve all they get.

not agreed- its not continuous taunting, and N Korea is a bully state and you don't appease a bully by rollling over

Dunno about the politics, but the money markets are all over the shop as a result ... could be interesting times ahead on both fronts.

It says in that article that N.Korea depend highly on China, so won't China just go.. No, stop.. And they'll stop?

I would imagine so.

Pretty sure the conversation will be along the lines of "pipe down".

Sometimes you have to show your adversary (these two countries are still technically at war I believe) that you have the means to give them more than a bloody nose should they decide to take you on.

The South doesn't have its military ready for action 24/7 for a laugh...

Your response is a bit Chamberlain-esque.

The subtext on the BBC article is that Kim Jong-Il is poking the south in an attampt to install his son as heir apparent. If he is on the way out let's hope that he doesn't take the peninsula with him.
