This is really tragic, and looks lke the work of right wing extremists. Chatting to a few swedish friends in the past it seems right wing extremism is not unknown at all over there, and has caused problems in the past.
It has been, however instructive and disturbing to see the views of some of the posters around here.
If I were you I would take that Swedish talk with a large packet of salt, anything right of Mao is considered right wing extremism here.It has been, however instructive and disturbing to see the views of some of the posters around here.
Hope they get to the bottom of this and are able to nail those responsible.

Not sure about Sky's assertion that you'd die in 3 minutes in Oslo fjord in July!
We aren't that far north. We have beaches and everything!Norway is probably much like Sweden, more or less a one party government since WW2, mass immigration on cost of national welfare (Norway should be able to cope with the cost though), if someone tries to discuss the mass immigration and its down side they are immediately branded as right wing nazis and silenced.
This "turning the blind eye" by the politicians pushes the ones with different views to either become grumpy and closed minded racists or to become organised neo nazis capable of this, and who knows what more.
An open and reasonable debate is the answer to avoiding acts like this in the future.

Scary stat for Norway (from Wiki) that has come up.
Total population of 4.9m - 18% are immigrants but are currently responsible for 27% of births!
The largest immigrant groups in Norway are Poles and Swedes. Why is this scary exactly?Total population of 4.9m - 18% are immigrants but are currently responsible for 27% of births!
While Polish and Swedish customs are fairly like the Norwegian ones, the other three can be quite differing to the Norwegian ones.

The Pakistanis and Somalis have been here since the '70s and I believe the current biggest growing immigrant group is Swedes and people from other western European countries. Quite a lot of UK residents have moved here lately among other.
Swedes must be the largest and most rapidly growing group of immigrants, thousands are moving to Norway to find jobs that can't be found here.If one is inclined that way, a group of Western Europeans will cause less offence than a handful Somalis for example. That probably was his triggering point, he felt the government in their PC'ness bent backwards to accommodate other cultures on cost of the own culture.
I'm only surprised that it happened in Norway, in Sweden I could have expected it, but in a rich country as Norway?

I think this guy knows exactly what he's doing to his own twisted logic.
Being captured alive, claiming that the killings were justified & of course no death penalty in Norway. I get the feeling he's going to try and preach his lunacy from the witness box and try & convert other mentally unstable right wing nutjobs.
He's trying to set himself as the far rights Bin Laden, influencing other hate groups throughout the world.

And at the same time he was able to pay back to the politicians who took his country away from him.

On a side note question; What exactly is a "Labour Youth Camp" anyway?
A youth camp for socialists is as common as any other camp, be it a swimming school or a religious camp, it gathers people with the same beliefs/values/needs to spread the word and functions as a social gathering of people with the same goal in life.Socialism, or social democracy as it's called, is a way of life here (for good and bad). You get taught, or at least they try to "teach" you, the socialist values either from your socialist parents or at school, clubs, workplace etc, everywhere you look, everything you read, everything you hear has a socialist undertone to it. Whether you believe in socialism or not, you get it shoved your way, everyday.
To say the tension between left and right is palpable here is somewhat an understatement.

So, the Democracy would be better served there if a multi-party system existed to allow other opinions a forum with which to be expressed as oppossed to being pent up.....do you agree? As someone living in the region, I value your opinion.
There is (sort of) a multi-party system here, I'm talking about Sweden now since I don't really know that much about Norway, but the different parties seem to share the same ideologies deep down.Jimbeaux said:

Maybe so, but I don't think it is in any way justification for what happened.
Not a justification by any means, but it is an explanation. The sure way to get extremists to act is to suppress all rational debate.carmonk said:

Not a justification by any means, but it is an explanation. The sure way to get extremists to act is to suppress all rational debate. If you were to express concern about the economic aspect of mass immigration, that goes straight in to unemployment and benefit dependency, and how it negatively affects an already very strained economy, you would immediately be branded as a racist.

It is a fact that multiculturalism has failed in some respects and it should be okay to point that out and to request that the policy is altered or replaced by something else. It is NOT okay to twist this into hate of everything multicultural and everyone supporting it, as Breivik has done.
It is a fact that some elements within Islam is a threat to any free society and it should be okay to point this out and call for measurements against these elements. It is NOT okay to twist this into hate of all Muslims and Islam in general, as Breivik has done.

This is the abslute truth!
I don't know how the discussions have been in Norway prior to ABB, I only know that here in Sweden if you were to point out the failings of multi-culti you would be silenced and branded as a new Hitler.
Violence and especially terror is never and can never be the right way, but silencing people that are concerned about these aspects and branding them racists is (nearly) equally wrong.
