A woman who had an un diagnosed tumour that caused her to grow to 6ft 5ins has been awarded £1.2 million pounds in compensation.

She's not lost her mobility, or her sight or her hearing, or any other of her senses. She's studying for an honours degree so it's probably fair to say she's not lacking in mental capacity either.

However she is "acutely conscious of her size and feels it marks her out as a freak". Her life "has been ruined" apparently. Also finding clothes on the high street is tricky.

Having a girlfriend that is just four inches shorter than her, I do struggle a bit with that.

Not saying she doesn't deserve anything, but £1,200,000-00...?? eek

What, so she is a lezza?
I clearly didn't explain that very well! biggrin

I (me) have a 6ft 1 girlfriend. Tall, for a girl, but... so what? confused

Hadn't seen that one

She had argued in the High Court that her abnormal growth meant she was “effectively getting uglier, to the point where you can’t become an actress”.

What an utterly absurd thing to say!

I'm too ugly to be an actor, so is 85% of the population, so what?

And since when did tallness equal ugliness?

What a queer post.

What do you think then, do you think getting tall deserves a seven figure payout in compensation?

Queer? what a strange post. hehe

My point was that this invites a typical PH response, ie that if it doesn't fit into someones personal bubble 'cos they didn't retrain after losing their cushy job at Daddy's cousins business then it must be categorized as being somebody who's a scrounging/socialist/commie/ne'er do well/chancer/trying it on scumbag who never did a days work/doley dosser etc etc.
Take your pick.
Which of the above posts are you referring to? confused

Well NO.

Unless medical incompetence is involved then take the b@stards [sorry dr_gn] to the cleaners.
And you don't think that it should be proportional?

So whether someone is killed, or left paralysed, or is left with a minute scar on the inside of their thigh, your response would immediately be "take them to the cleaners"?

Cos that's kind of what this thread is about. Should someone who's suffered the side effect of becoming very tall due to the NHS missing something be entitled to a seven figure payout due to (for example) being unable to become an actress, even though she never was one?

Yours
I'm obviously being a bit obtuse tonight. Where did I suggest that 'cos she didn't retrain after losing their cushy job at Daddy's cousins business then it must be categorized as being somebody who's a scrounging/socialist/commie/ne'er do well/chancer/trying it on scumbag who never did a days work/doley dosser etc etc.? confused

simple enough really, it's called negligence [again] the rest is window dressing to support that, but the fault and effect is quite clearly supported by the evidence.
Totally agree. But I'll ask the question again. Do you feel the amount claimed due to the NHS missing something is proportional to the suffering inflicted?

I was referring to the general PH philosophy of the entitlement thingy, your post was an example for me. If you disagree, fair enough. I still believe that the PH mantra is that 'if they don't come from the same class as me then fk them'
I'm out.
Sorry, where exactly did I say 'if they don't come from the same class as me then fk them'?

More to the point, where did I mention "class" at all? This woman is studying for an honours degree, hardly an uneducated benefits grasping chav then surely? confused

Genuinely fascinated to understand how you turned this into some kind of "class war" in your mind when it's not actually been mentioned anywhere! biggrin
