I assumed any kind of online banking transfer is automated to hell so can't really be "mislaid" as such?
Presumably some kind of computer error (or maybe even OP’s own mistake)!

I guess I'm curious whether it shows as having gone through but didn't or quite what the detail around the issue was.

I sound like I'm being pedantic but when you think how many transactions take place electronically and online every day, for lighting to strike twice seems damned unlucky.

OP: you say the telephone call is expensive so why don't you look at using Skype to make the call. It's a very cheap way of calling an international number.

Not my mistake as I recieved a response from Nationwide confirming the transaction and informing me it would be processed the same working day.
This was prior to the New Years holiday, so I assumed it would take longer, but when the money was still sitting in my UK account a week later, I knew there was a problem.
My issue is that this is the second time this has happened to me in less than a year.
I only make these transfers every three months, and also assume they are an automated process.

But it seems not, as they admitted last time that somebody had missed my request.

Now,I wait to see what reason they give me this time?

Do you have a debit card with nationwide?

If so use transfer wise on your phone and use that to deposit the money into your Thai account.
It's quicker as no money is being transferred across borders.

Imo in this day and age it's your fault for using your bank to make this kind of transfer.

It seems unreasonable to blame the OP for a bank error.

Working for a Mortgage provider and you don't get a preferential rate????

Really ??? Pull the other one.

My original post was about the st service I am experiencing fro Nationwide.

Nothing has changed from that. Still, I have recieved no call and the funds still sit in my UK account and I am twelve hours away in Thailand with little funds to draw on to live on!

All this " blue sky st " from probable banking staff about " liquidity " is all bks, Nationwide have fked up and this is not the first time they have done it.

As my OP said, " for bankers, read wkers".
To be quite honest, you sound both rather stupid and wildly out of touch with reality - but don't let that stop you ranting away about things. Mistakes happen, not that you seem to realise that.

Nationwide is a Building Society that offers banking services. They don't usually charge for their personal services and, like most mutual organisations, keep their costs tightly controlled in order that they can offer the best returns. Their staff are not very well paid and any 'perks' are fairly irrelevant when interest rates here are so incredibly low.

If you want full, international, banking services then I suggest you use, and pay for, the services of a facility better suited to your needs.

So, in your opinion it is my fault that I used a banks system to transfer my money from that bank? And it didn't work!

Shows what your opinion is worth !

Yes you knowingly got involved with an industry that's got stty service rather than seeking out better alternatives which takes five seconds with Google.

My opinion may not be worth much, but you're the one with no money.

I highly doubt they get any mortgage related perks, the days of banks / building societies providing such were regulated out of existence and with staff churn probably too expensive according to their bean-counters.

I have some sympathy for the OP, although the error (s) were small and these things happen occasionally the ramifications for the customer can be very significant and therefore annoying.
For the same error to occur within six months and the resultant ‘fix’ to be far less than satisfactory would prompt me to write a letter to the CEO advising of the situation.

Recently my bank made an error of significance, confirming a BAC order when in fact a technical issue resulted in my payment being ‘lost’ in transit. The result of this technical issue was that I was happily driving around uninsured in my vintage car for over a week yikes
Investigating to find what had gone wrong resulted in the branch manager offering me a meaningless lame excuse about the issue resulting from a ‘broadband failure’. Put another way it was the computers fault.
The annoying part of this situation was the lack of interest. enthusiasm and/or ability of the manager to investigate the issue. I am in the process of changing my bank.

Often a good idea to change at least one account (assuming you have more) to a different bank. Just don't assume that any of them are particularly good !
Ironically, it's Nationwide who often come out quite high in customer service surveys.

I have an account with Nationwide, got annoyed last year when I read of the pay awarded to the CEO, dispite the fact I voted against the recommendations remnumeration packages for the Board wink
Now moving from Halifax to First Direct who have a sparkling record of customer service.

Well the situation is now acceptably resolved. Had a call from the customer service centre at Nationwide, apologising for the late transfer.

So many to process over the New Year meant big delays, due to holidays etc etc.....

Moved mine to a priority, due to my circumstances of having low funds here, and promised the funds would be in my Thai account later today.

Also, waived the £20 CHAPS fee to do the transfer.

I expressed my concerns that this was the second time in twelve months, albeit a different reason this time, but politely thanked her for the quick response and grateful for the waiver of the fee.

I hope this is the last time I am put into this situation, using this On-line facility, but I am grateful to the positive responses with advice of better commercial options to transfer my money.

To the 'bankers' who gave me grief for posting my negative comments about their industry, I can only say it is how most customers view you.

Now time to get on with my r and r over the next few months, with funds to support my enjoyment.

Cheers, Gibbo.

It’s not a bank, it’s a building society.
It doesn’t have its own system it will be using Barclays or HSBC to do the actual transfer
Two days ago I used a Bank (Halifax/Bank of Scotland) to send a payment to Thailand;
they used Citibank to do the actual transfer.

Previously when I've used HiFX to send funds to Thailand, they used Barclays.

Glad you got it resolved.

The fact that other people have the same ignorance as you on various aspects of banking doesn’t make you any more informed!

Wow £20 fee?

You'd have to transfer 3,500 to be hit with that kind of fee with transferwise, the exchange rate is probably better too. Doesnt seem so enjoyable to me.
