KYC and AML requirements.

Have you spent/received over 2k with them in one year?

If so that's usually the need for additional KYC

They are a bit smarter than that if the same address is involved anywhere in the transaction.

My account was limited once and they also asked for the ID. Needless to say my account was later shut down. I can't stand PayPal for reasons like this.

This has just happened to me, I am thinking of doing it with my drivers license and a bill. I will however, blur my photo entirely and all of the other information other than my name and my address.

If they want a clearer photo or my driving license number they can shove it up their ****.

I am just about to use my PayPal account again after about 2 years. Trouble is I have stuff to sell on EBay and PayPal seems the best or only way to get paid.

when they lock it down do they freeze funds in your PP account at the same time?

used eBay for the first time the other day and had to endue waiting until they decided they would release my funds even though buyer had confirmed receipt of goods - does not give you confidence in this idea of a third party payment processor

how do they make their money? Do they charge fees to people such as eBay? Anyone suspect that the lockdowns and the "pending" status of your funds are a way for PP to pool funds and invest in MMs for profit? Is that their business model?

They charge a small fee on every transaction. This is chargable to the seller, not the buyer. Millions and millions of transactions = zillions of profits.

Unless I am mistaken, they are not regulated by financial authorities which presumably means they don't abide by the same rules/data protection and I'm not a fan of a company who can - upon ebays instruction - freeze your finances in the event of a dispute between buyer and seller.

But as its the only real way to use eBay, we're stuck with it.

Bump.

Just had the same happen to me on Saturday and found this thread. I gave them my details but now they want some photo ID. Any idea how long these idiots take to confirm this?

Seriously, if this is due to some bullst EU regulation - they just confirmed by 'Out' vote.

I guess you could send them anyone's photo - how would they know? But I know someone who got thrown off Facebook for refusing to post his mugshot.

I'm not sure who owns us more, the State or the Corporations.

I know someone as well - he didn't use his real name etc.

This is a bit different - just annoyed that a global company like PayPal can get pushed around by the [unelected] EU to scavenge personal details like this.

Just to add I have no problems with a Bank asking me for ID etc.

Facebook insist you use your real name, and will close your account if you fail to comply, however I've never known them insist on your profile picture being an actual picture of you. Mine has never been a pic of me, neither has most of my friends.

Agreed, leaving the EU seems a no-brainer to me.

Tonks phone them up - "ID! Do you not know who I am!!!" Even better get your secretary to phone them on your behalf and keep them waiting while she puts you through.

I guess that if you can send them your passport or other "proper" ID, they'll assume that whoever issued it has done all the expensive time-consuming ID checks.

Thread Resurrection.... smile

Paypal want photo id, Passport or Driving Licence!

Got genuine email that suspicious activity on my Paypal account was detected, and to login from browser rather than a email link and sure enough the account is limited, they want either Driving Licence or Passport.

This is the email

After much online surfing it is genuine and they require a scan of PP or DL, this is done via a drag/drop box on their system. Decided it would be my DL took a phone snap and uploaded via my pc, after this Paypal ask you to change your password, emails are also sent and confirm these actions have taken place.

Why???
Not 100% but my theory is on one or two things, 1st I'm recently back from Australia and HK, didn't use Paypal but Credit/Debit cards were obviously used in these locations, including a phone call whilst in Aus to my bank as I could not withdraw more than $100 from the ATM's, this was resolved with my limit increased, but I still don't think this is the reason.

What I suspect more than anything is using a VPN, I have a free VPN account ZenMate and I reckon that I've purchased a few things since getting back to UK from ebay.co.uk and may well have still been logged in via VPN this would look like I'm making and completing transactions from one of the four locations available via Zenmate VPN (USA, HK, Romania, Germany) this to me would flag up Paypal as suspicious activity.

Not happy about having to upload DL, but they are covered by banking and fraud laws, the links I read regarding this are in there Terms & Conditions, Privacy.

All sorted now nothing taken or stolen all transactions correct, have also upgraded to 2 Factor Authentication.
