amongst the tat in my loft I found one and a half sovereigns.

One is an 1848 full sovereign, the other a 1902 half.

I put them on Ebay, with a start price of 99p, anticipating early retirement, but have this evening withdrawn them with zero bids.

On Ebay there is an identical sovereign to mine priced at about £1800.

So why doesn't anyone want my sovereigns then?

At .99 p people may thnink it is a fake.

They are generally worth to gold value. Take them to a dealer and get cash

There are loads of fakes out there, I would NEVER buy gold coins from eBay unless it was a genuine trader.

Bullion buy post will buy your full sov for £219 and £109 for your 1/2. They might pay more as they are old but I doubt it.

I'd be interested in buying these if you want to sell.

Don't be put it on EBay. The 1848 young head shield reverse was one of the lower mintage years. I can't remember if they also minted these outside the UK In Melbourne and Sydney. I'll need to check.
Don't let it go for next to nothing on eBay. It needs to find a good home in collection. The half sovereign isn't so special but contains 3.6 grams of gold at about £31 a gram.... bullionbypost will be a good idea
There are lots of variations of this year with a small or large head http://www.londoncoins.co.uk/?page=Pastresults&amp...
