We are due to change/renew mortgage fairly soon and this time we'd like to free some equity to repay my FiL who loaned us some money to help with recent work on the house. For reasons I don't understand this doesn't seem to be that straight forward with our current lender.

So we're potentially looking to change lender if we can find one who can do that for us, but the other factor is that I am a contractor, working through my own limited company. Is it still the case that contractors really need to go to a specialist broker for mortgages? If so, who's good?

Just to chuck in my 2p's worth - we've just had Sarnie do our mortgage provider switch and I'm a Ltd. Co contractor. All good, very happy to deal with him and would definitely recommend him to others. Thanks again!
