So I live in a semi detached and the neighbours kid thinks it's OK to kick the football in the front room on the hard floor, he's in there and they live in the back extension so don't hear it much. We get on well with them and I have asked them from time to stop which they tell him to but it's getting too often now and I feel a solution is needed to dampen the thudding out.

Anyone had anything similar and got a solution? Do I need to put some dampening under the floor or is it a false wall job?

Sounds like it should be in the "council" thread?

Who on earth allows a child to play football inside?

The child should be in military boarding school, and the parents in prison/shot.

If I were in power, etc.

Stand and kick a ball against their extension wall so they get an idea of the problem ?

If you get on well with them, why not invite them to yours to listen to the noise. If they understand they may stop him completely.

After saying that, they sound like right plonkers for allowing it in the first place!

Suggested he brings his son round to hear the noise but didn't think it would help and that asking him to stop would be enough but it just isn't really.

He's taken the balls off him and hid them which he then goes and finds and starts again. The dad has even admitted to hearing it himself but not being bothered about doing anything which is annoying. Not sure what more I can do other than come up with a solution on my side. He's getting an Xbox for Christmas so maybe that will stop it or make it worse if he's playing fifa then plays with the football....

Assassination of both parents, leaving the child an orphan.

The parents and the child all learn valuable lessons and you get some peace and quiet. Everyone's a winner. thumbup
Once you have done this you need to mince up the parents and prepare them into a delicious chilli and feed the chilli to the son , then when he enjoys it tell him the ingredients.

Boot a basketball against their extension until the point is proved, being nice is getting you nowhere.

False wall won't help you.

My neighbours are pretty noisy, and I had my wall soundproofed years ago. It made a significant difference to the general noise. But.....

.... Their kids also play football in their lounge on hard flooring. Constant thudding as they run about after the ball sometimes for an hour at a time. Sounds like a herd of elephants.

I believe the only solution is to break into their house and slowly torture the entire family over a period of weeks. I intend to start next week.

I can't possibly imagine what it must be like to live in a semi, worst still a terraced.

Sell up and buy a detached, preferably in the country with stunning views.

You know it makes sense.

Can't agree more, I had neighbours on both sides, moved to a detached, the peace and quiet is wonderful.

I feel your pain OP, I live in a detached house in a good area, all my neighbours are great.

Apart from next door who let their dogs outside to bark at all hours of night and day making it impossible to enjoy a lie in, an afternoon nap, an early night or to sit in the garden in peace.

The animals are left inside unattended in the daytime, barking constantly and worse still they eventually set off every dog in the village.

The owners sit in their garden with their dogs barking and just ignore them, seemingly unable to hear the noise.

You cannot reason with people like this and they are free to cause annoyance to their neighbours without recourse.

Ouch hehe

OP a glass wall or soundproofing won’t help you as it’s the type of noise. Honest conversation is the only way. Failing that there are some good suggestions on this thread which may, find you in jail hehe
