I had thought that the most expensive private residence was owned by Richard Branson - his own private island ,no less! I seem to remember Necker was valued at something like £500 million sterling ,but prob a bit less now .My memory could also be playing tricks though!

Interesting call, anyone want to give Savills a ring hehe

I'm guessing it classifies more as a stately attraction than residential though

& a whole Island does not count as the value is in the island not the property, i know, location location n all that, but c'mon....

That particular house was supposedly worth nothing like what was actually paid for it. Estimates were about $80m I believe..... However some Russian guy who was into (can you guess..?) oil persuaded the current occupier to part with their beloved house by offering something like 5 times what it was worth.

It was covered in Sunday Times a few weeks back, the Russians are currently buying up the French Riviera.

Russians are currently retreating actually, the Chelsea football club owner is not alone in over paying either, as there is also a property on the Cap d'antibes that sold this year for 190 million Euros.

Word is from estate agents that the Russians do not have the same money they had, apparently alot were buying properties on loans backed by the buoyant oil prices, I guess the loans are being called in?

Swaines Hill Manor, Hampshire. I saw it on Knight Franks website for £12,500,000 earlier this year, it's sold now though.
