Odd things occurred on site yesterday.
The sparkies, for reasons unknown, have decided to chase out newly plastered walls!

I've a meeting with the main contractor again tomorrow as I sent them and the sparkies an email last night with photos attached essentially saying "WTF is going on? This is going backwards, not forwards!" frown

Here's what miffed me yesterday....

...and today's kwloitee filling...

Arses will be kicked tomorrow.

Meanwhile, tiling's started!
Laundry room/office area

Bathroom tiles selection

Dark grey 45x45 for all the floors, white for 3/4 walls and lemon (more lime!) for 1 wall.

The exterior decorators missed a bit. Not sure HOW as they had to remove their masking! confused

Neighbour's patio's being laid. Slabs are suspended on what appear to be packs of cement. Current patio is on supporting plastic spacers.

ETA: Tiling will take ~4 weeks.

Notary appointment for 25 Jun to complete the sale of our current house, and we must be out by 15 Aug. Not sure where we're going to live yet.... we'll be in a holiday home for a while, I think. paperbag

Fingers crossed we may have found a (short term) rental house only 2 mins walk from our build, which would mean no issues with my daughters changing schools in September. A British family's currently renting is and they want to move out of but don't want to stay the required 3 month's notice period. We're happy to take it on for that period to cover us, and the landlord won't lose out. Win, win! smile
Apparently the place is huge, but very 70s inside.... but it'll only be temporary.

PLEASE, PLEASE all cross your fingers, and toes, for us too! sonar

Great thread, house is coming on well smile

I've just taken on a project partly in Lux, I get out there once a month for a couple of days, seems like a nice place.

fingers x mate, as others have said, looks like you'll be in but i guess finding somewhere and commiting is necasary, you'll have two houses for a bit biggrin maybe line up a sub let??

the missed paint is to obvious, i'm betting something is to be fitted or a special paint specific for areas prone to wear or damp.

Nick Grant, careful - Luxembourg's an easy place to get used to. Before you know it, you've lived here 15 years....

t'other Nick, thanks!
We'll know later about the rental that overlooks the site. The painter was on site when I went to see the main contractors on Tue. He was tidying up when I arrived. He noticed the unpainted part and quickly got the paint out. hehe

Fingers being crossed seems to have helped!!
We have a verbal agreement for a short term let of an older but huuuuuge house a short distance away from our build. We can have it from the beginning of August, which works out very well for us indeed. smile
We won't need to it anything in storage as the 'basement' of the rental has a number of rooms where we can store everything ourselves.

Scaffolding's gone....

Since the garden's west facing, it has mostly afternoon and evening sun. It was 26c air temp this evening at 18:30, but the patio area was quite a bit warmer!

Our patio and path laying has begun. Anyone seen this system elsewhere?

Bloody hell! The house is looking fantastic. Must be lovely to see it "in the flesh" as it were rather than being hidden behind scaffolding.

I've seen it on roof terraces, never on patios. But you can see what looks like a drain hole to the left of the picture...

Wetwipe: Thanks! Yes, it is. smile

dxg: Yep, there are drainage channels to the outside of the path and the patio, and also 2 drains inserted into the cement slab on which the builders lay these slabs. We have a similar set-up where we live now, but the gaps between the slabs are 'great' for growing moss in winter and sprouting Sycamores in Spring! Hopefully not being deprived of natural light in the new area this won't be a problem.

Whats the rule with the patio 'stands' the join for them seems to be some elaborate adjustable plastic stand, while the edges seem to be resting on a dob/bag of sand.

You're right, but honestly, I dunno!
My current patio doesn't have a bag of cement under the edges, but does have plastic supports, but the slabs move when you walk on them. These don't move, so I guess it's to ensure a flat suface? .... I really don't know how it works though.

Looks great now the scaffolding has gone - hopefully one day soon I can start my own build here in Lux now I've been here 2 years, although still very much in the saving up mode frown

Re the patio spacers, its not suspended like that to allow underfloor heating to be added is it? Kinda like a heated football pitch to stop the slabs icing? I have seen a couple of driveways in the past that had heating so you didnt have to constantly put salt down to clear the ice. Would seem to go against the energy saving of the build though - save all the energy within the house to then make sure it can all go to waste via the patio outside smile

I like the idea, Marky.

I'm sure that would rather defeat the object of the Eco build - although I'm still at pains to understand how Eco it's been given where the stuff's had to come from to build it - rather like Toyota Pious batteries. wink
EPC outcome our current house is poor. VERY poor. frown

that is a strange mechanism for laying slabs, maybe its used just to gt right levels and then concrete flowed underneath afterwards? not sure I'd be confident in that not moving around tbh but i guess they know what they're doing, I'd watch putting anything heavy and pointy down in the centre or having high heeled parties with lots of big girls hehe

its about as far away from our build as you could get but I still see a lovely family home 5pot, fingers still crossed for you smile even though your big day looks pretty certain now.

That's because they're all over the border in Belgique.
