Bugger! My Honda Izy has rusted through its deck after 16 more or less abusive years. A replacement deck is £130! eek

biggrin That's a good way to look at it. But a new one is only £17 a year, and will involve much less faff. scratchchin

Had the same issue (14yrs deck rotten) no one interested in the repair of it. So just replaced sadly. Take the engine off it though. surely a home project will require a little engine some time ? ?

Moved house with a small patch of lawn and paddock. I bought renovated Mountfield for £40 for the lawn.
Entrusting the one acre paddock to 7 Ewes & lambs from the village.

Final nail in the coffin was when my deaf gardener who'd not heard the alarm going as it was overheating due to a pussy willow fluff build up on the rad intake scrapped the engine........
I very much struggle to see how that is Kubota's fault.

I also suspect that the machine will have had a warning light along with the audible alarm.

Kubota are generally very good at standing behind their products, but replacing an engine because you failed to blow out the radiator then missed all the warnings when it got hot is going beyond what is expected!

Making the most of working from home (and this week's rain) to do a full service and overhaul of my two John Deere 455's.

The near one is 1995 build, the rear one is 2001. Both have 54-inch cutting decks. The rear one has the grass collector.

In early April a big oak came down. It's been a wonderful few weeks harvesting firewood.

Nearly won this last night. Luckily ran out of beer before the bidding got out of hand...

Ooh! Like that and their rougher models. Shame my 3/4 acre doesn't really warrant it and I'm best just strimming the steep bits.

Just ordered a new deck for my little mower.

Thankfully, my experience of Kubota has been the exact opposite.

My lawn is flatish but also has a lot of bumps and mounds. No scalping, can mow at full speed even when the grass is wet and it rarely blocks and when it does, a few shakes of the lever clears it.

I don't think you can really blame the engine blowing on Kubota when it clearly says in the manual to clear out the air intake grill after every use and it was allowed to build up to the point of engine failure? I'm glad for your sake that you got a cheap new engine but it sounds like that particular problem was caused by user error.
I've just bought a Kubota G26 High Dump. Bloody marvellous thing. The guy who delivered it was at pains to point out the radiator screen - "if you do nothing else in terms of maintenance, pull this out every day and knock the crud out". I've never spotted material crud in it, but I check it all the same.

In terms of the cut - that's all about setting the scalping wheels correctly and not trying to razor cut a lumpy lawn. Ours is modelled on the Somme, and with the scalping wheels set, it does a perfect job.

Note that when the kubota over heats, there is the buzzer AND the whole instrument panel starts flashing.

Very pleased with the Husqvarna. Only a few moments to move the deck to vertical for cleaning, blade removal and regrind, and it turns on a sixpence with no grassbox either.

Currently mainly use an Atco 17s cylinder, and a Hayter 48 pro for my verges and if the grass is a little long.

Probably going for one of these once my top lawns are nicely level & worth the investment:

it has 6 settings , but on number 1 the lowest it won't take the grass off, perhaps a quarter of an inch.

Just to add i think my old sit on cheapo cut lower.

It was a fantastic thing and lasted for another 15 years.
