To be honest £50 doesn't seem too bad for what it is, if it looks ok I wouldn't worry too much.
I am reasonably happy with ti, but when you buy a BMW for a bargain price, but end up with a vauxhal for the market price, you have no reason to be happy, do you? All you did was buy a car you didn't particularly want and was led to believe you were getting a better deal.

Yeah I typed that before you posted the link, you're right it is misleading and I would be a bit annoyed.

Fair point, but... How much will it cost to have a tracked delivery back to the seller, as without that, you're not getting a refund frown I suppose you could ship a housebrick back, and assure the seller it was a fake marble fireplace when it left.

It's not such a great deal when it actually cost £150 though. It's amazing how many buyers almost ignore the postage costs when making purchases, like its not really part of the cost (not aimed at op).

Looking at the ebay page it wouldnt suprise me to find out that the seller thought that was marble, the op had to ask after all.

yes The surround behind it is marble, what you have bought, however, is not, it's a cast.

I have no idea what ebay's rules are about describing things properly, but if the first pic is one from the ad, you should have known it wasn't marble.

That said, that's not really the issue, is it? The item was misdescribed so you'll need recourse through ebay. I hope you've left very negative feedback for the seller, too.
nope the pic was one that i made.
here is the auction in question

Mantle piece is standard late 80's Barratts house, probably used by plenty of others too. It's not marble.

When my folks bought their house in 89 it came with one of those things fitted, and IIRC they had the option of paying more for some grey marble hearth, but had their own installed instead.

The advert says "Italian Solid Marble Fire Surround".

In the advert picture it is indeed surrounding a marble fire place. So the advert is not misdiscribing, from a certain point of view!
You might be able to get him on the fact that it's not Italian? Unless, of course, it's surrounding an solid italian marble fire!!

We had one of those in our last house. Knew it wasn't "real" and didn't pay £800 for it!! To be honest I wasn't happy until we received the third one as it was described as "Veined" and the "veins" in it weren't visible making it look like a ceramic pot rather than "fake" Marble.

However the description states "This auction is for the marble surround only not the marble back panel" which clearly suggests the surround itself is marble.

A quick browse at the sellers feedback would have told you that they wouldn't know marble from MDF!

it was 8 minutes to end of auction when i saw it. Now I never really seem to get a bargain and though perhaps this is the one. Description said solid marble, no bids, 50 quid start. Worth a punt I thought. Didn't really think i needed to investigate the seller etc as I was relying on listing's description.
