I did not go to First Utility as I had never heard of them but had heard of Sainsburys and there was only £50 difference.
I'm now with Sainsburys and just opted for the August 2016 fix. Nobody can get near it based on my profile and new postcode. If Ovo were within a few quid I'd jump yes
I'm with Sainsbury's now - cheapest I can find and I've been happy with the customer service so far.
I was with Sainsburys for many years and was very happy. GB Energy offered savings though (with no minimum term contract) so am giving them a go.

One thing you have to watch when switching to these cheaper deals are the minumum term lock-ins and exit fees. Most of these companies seem to prey on you changing to them, attracted by the comparatively cheap prices then within 6 months of you being with them they hike their prices to being roughly the same as the competition. I noticed this myself with GB Energy whose rate is "variable" but they don't have any fixed term or exit fees so I can jump ship to someone else if they get silly with their prices.
I have been with Sainsburys for about 3 months, their exit fees are reasonable and cannot see why I would want to leave as it is only a yearly contract with fixed prices so they cannot increase them during that period.

Just switched to first utility today. loads cheaper than the eon tariff we were on. Heartened to hear people have had good experiences with them as was slightly unsure when I did it this morning (before reading this thread).

My post was just a general one, not in direct response to what you'd written. smile

Signed up to First Utility a year ago for Duel fuel. Seemed a good deal at the time but then they kept increasing the monthly direct debit which annoyed me as I was in credit by a fair amount. Now that the 12 month deal is over I find that British Gas of all people will be cheaper by about £700 for the next 12 months.

Extremely happy with Ovo, and as has been mentioned they pay 3% interest on any credit balance which is a nice touch, I overpay and use it as a holiday fund smile

I genuinely wouldn't go with British Gas again if they were free, I've never had to deal with such an incompetent organisation.

Where do you guys get your figures from to plug into the comparison site? I have no idea at all what I use, or really what I spend a year...

Thread bump..

Anyone any experience of Tonik ? Seem to get pretty good reviews on TrustPilot and about £350 cheaper on a 1-year fixed rate than Scottish Enegry who we've been with for a while. I'm guessing the switch process is the only pain point with these guys ?

I switched to them about a month ago, no pain so far.

I just switched for the first time ever (to OVO, but doubt it makes much difference) and assumed it would be a pain, don't think I even done anything apart from fill out a few forms etc, really easy but just takes a while to happen.

I switched to them about 2 months ago; also no pain so far.

Sainsbury's Energy however, my previous supplier, decided to use a guesstimate meter reading for my final electricity bill AFTER I gave Tonik the final meter readings. They kept asking what I wanted to close the complaint that I'd raised so eventually I said £250 and some nice flowers.

They sent me a cheque for £20. cool

No flowers though. frown

Been with ZOG Energy for over a year. Very simple online interface, just up date the meter reading every month, or few months if you so wish. Switch was straight forward with good up to date online comms, never had an issue with them. Halved our gas bill.

I'm tempted to join Robin Hood Energy when my existing deal expires. Setup by Nottingham Council as a non-profit.

Avoid Extra Energy.

Even 3 months after leaving them I was still on the phone to them, the worst and most useless customer service experience I've ever had. My longest complaint (of the 3) ran for 8 months with me phoning them up weekly to get updates.

Currently with "Future Energy". Cheap. No problems so far.

Yep I went with zog in the end, nearly 2 years with them now. The bills you can slow understand. I was with BG and as you said it's half the price.

Used Ovo and Opus for years. No problem whatsoever. Why pay more? It's all the same stuff.

Currently with Ovo, but just looked at Zog and it would certainly save us quite a bit of money on Gas.

But I'd then need an alternative electricity-only supplier, and electricity is about 60-70% of our energy bill. Still looking for the best rate on that...
