Pumped in insulation
Discussion
Equus,
I think there's a good chance we might actually have a lot in common if we met over a Woodford's Wherry in your local, however it's clear we have a difference of opinion in this matter and neither of us are going to give any ground from our currently expressed positions
That's fine with me (differences and debate are good) however it strikes me as somewhat unseemly two old blokes playing intellectual ping pong on a public forum so I'm now bowing out of this one as clearly it's going no where! I enjoyed the discourse though.
...and I have work to do
Ciao for now

For sure.Possibly the difference between our professions is that I'm paid to find solutions, whereas a great deal of the business of a Surveyor is occupied with finding problems.
I'm happy to acknowledge that all forms of building work carry some risk of defects.
My experience of polybead-type cavity insulation is that the risk of defects is relatively small, and always associated with a primary defect elsewhere (the insulation itself is highly resistant to the transmission of moisture across the cavity). It is therefore the best solution available, in many instances, and in my opinion the easily measurable long-term benefits greatly outweigh the limited risks.
Offering up problems is easy. If you can offer a better SOLUTION, then I'm all ears.
..damn, I said that was it but...
In fact much of what I do is design work and solving problems rather than looking for them, so I think we are probably a lot closer that you might think. I'm not a surveyor in the familiar sense and actually do a great deal of new build design as well as conversion work, including tendering procurement and cost management, some Heritage work, boundary disputes (and very much more)
Architecural background, degree in Estate Management but qualified as Building Surveyor
So very much a problem solver.
Which is why I also enjoy buidling engines and cars!
