The boiler dissaster thread
Discussion
wow as has been mentioned that has escalated quickly,
did you get a second opinion, it can be tricky to find a reliable local plumber but worth the hassle?
in your words paying an extra £1k which is kind of half a holiday or 2500 packs of foxes bourbon biscuits?

By the end of their visit I'd had:
- pump replaced,
- boiler fascia replaced,
- boiler fan replaced,
- boiler heat exchanger replaced,
- a section of blocked pipe cut out, cleared, and fixed.
So, probably around £1k of parts and about 10-14 hours of labour.
That might be £1k worth of BG priced parts - pump replaced,
- boiler fascia replaced,
- boiler fan replaced,
- boiler heat exchanger replaced,
- a section of blocked pipe cut out, cleared, and fixed.
So, probably around £1k of parts and about 10-14 hours of labour.

Mind you, odd that they apparently missed a chance to sell their £750 power-flush.

Similar experience - boiler wasn't heating and all of the local gas engineers were busy due to a cold spell. Paid for the £99 fixed repair and an annual policy.
BG were there next day. They took a few days to get everything working again due to waiting for parts and it being the weekend. By the end of their visit I'd had:

How would a replacement boiler fascia fix the issue? BG were there next day. They took a few days to get everything working again due to waiting for parts and it being the weekend. By the end of their visit I'd had:

...and likely the problem was just the blocked pipe!

The heat exchanger was very corroded inside, the pump and fan both tested failed using their electronic testing gear. Mind you, odd that they apparently missed a chance to sell their £750 power-flush.
They did quote for a powerflush (which is needed) - £973. I'll be shopping around for that !
