Public footpath at the bottom of the garden, beach full of people in the summer, desolate in the winter, no thanks.

That would suit me, very nice indeed and a lovely spot. I can see it has a garage but as usual for these estate agents they can't be bothered to add it to the floor plan so one has no idea how large it is. Poor or inadequate floor plans really piss me off when you consider they want 1.5% of a big number for doing very little.

ETA: just found this "There is ample parking within the courtyard as well as a detached stone building, with eye catching clock tower on the pitched slate roof. This building is a triple garage 8.31m x 5.87m (27’3 x 19’3) below which is extensive full height storage for a ride on tractor, garden machinery and implements, logs, etc. - See more at: http://www.jackson-stops.co.uk/cgi-bin/properties/...

So that's nice biggrin

Interesting I think - might need a few quid spending on it, and it seems quite remote, but commonly close to the railway line!

But it has a dungeon. smile

European women seem to have less hang-ups than us Brits, particularly with nudity. It was 4 very, very happy years. wink

Depends what you mean by remote. I used to live in Bedwyn, just down the road and there's a fast train to London from Pewsey, it's a short walk along the canal to the Royal Oak at Wooten Rivers and it's about 10 mins to Marlborough (shops and supermarkets), 20 mins to the M4.

To me, that's pretty well connected. And it's a lovely part of the world, I've lived all over the UK and Europe and it's probably the only place I'd move back to if it were possible to do so.

Endless pranks and drunken fun. The statues were on turntable plinths, so in the dark you could turn them as if they were following the endless budding ghost-hunters. Queue much screaming and running. Frickin ace. Could also access the roof spaces above the sleeping quarters where we'd rattle chains, make ghostly footsteps, moans etc. Also, the original bell comms systems were there with bells intact, but wires cut in the roof. We could get to the cut-ends and ring the bells late at night. More screams. smile

Local knowledge is a great thing and I like it even more. So it it priced reasonably for the area in your experience?

A ten minute walk to the pub along the canal.... What could possible go wrong!

Looks ideal to me, a couple of year's time I would be up for that as my early retirment home. Fishing on the Kennet, lovely pubs in the area and a mooch round Marlborough on a Saturday morning. What's not to like (ok the coach house is very small and would need adapting to take the cars) biggrin

Just about my perfect location, if I won the lottery I'd be looking for something like this in that area.

I spent a very pleasant day at Lyme Regis on Saturday, running up and down the prom after a 3 year old who had just learned to ride a bike with pedals. He was even pretty good at dodging the coffin dodgers.

I went past the below (quite a few times) so had to have a look to see what they wanted for it, expecting something silly like £650k.

I was a little bit out:

£1.3m to live above a cafe?

nuts

(Bloody lovely location though.)

I'd agree, but no PH content there. £1.3m for a maisonette, above a caff?!
Whilst it may be on the seafront, there's no parking with it, from the details at least.

I think it's probably been priced down because at first glance you see the railway and discount it. There are a few trains an hour down there but they're fast trains and unlike road noise, it's momentary so doesn't intrude really (at least that's my experience of living near the same railway, after a while you don't really notice).
For the size and land available I'd say that's a good buy for the area, unless there are abandoned mine workings under it or something - prices have really risen in that part of the world in the last decade or so.

I used to live in Little Bedwyn, the pubs being 20 mins walk down the canal in Great Bedwyn, I never fell in but one of my friends did as we were walking back in winter, he was a little worse for wear and looking up at the stars.......

No. It's more like a hotel than a home. Impressive but not really liveable to my eye.

I'd say the same about many on this thread. They just do nothing for me as I could never comprehend living in them, money no object.

I recall reading somewhere recently what it is like to live in a Stately home. It seems that buying it is the cheapest and easiest part of ownership, and it has to run like a business with employees and a constant stream of outgoings on repairs etc. AS much as the idea of being "lord of the manor" has a degree of appeal, the crushingly expensive reality for me would far outweigh the status factor.

Absolutely. My grandparents had a large house, although not stately home sized and they ended up with 3 full time staff, a gardener, housekeeper and handyman. The house was pretty much constantly being fixed or decorated.
