Although nothing a good sympathetic redecoration couldn't sort out - plenty of original period features to work with.
I once tiled a kitchen worktop in that style.

To paraphrase Franz Kafka "The shame of it will outlive me" hehe

Remove all tat. Plain carpets. Fresh white walls. Would look quite nice, mostly.

It looks like a human scale re-imagining of one of those 90s plastic children's princess playhouses.

"Rum Cay is recognised as one of Newton Mearns’ most contemporary homes".

Well that's one way of putting it.

Carpet with the patterns look like rejects from a travel tavern reception area.

I wondered if PUM meant ‘pie’ in Gaelic but apparently it’s West Indian for vagina. Still, explains the decor.

Nice room sizes though and the furnishings are nothing a bit of Biffaspend couldn’t fix. Quite ugly and cheap on the outside though.

This travesty is about 50 metres from my parents house -

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...

You may look at the outside, and think 'that's ok', but bear with me.

The house is twice the size it should be for the plot.
It is on a traditional side road, made up largely of retirement style bungalows.
Rooms which are big just for the sake of being big. You could play football in that hallway!
Olive kitchen fronts with tiger granite worktops.
A gargantuan panoramic window to the front, to stare down on some bungalows.

It's a vanity project, built only to sell it. The irony is that he could have built a high specification bungalow for a fraction of the cost, and sold it for between £4-500K, making more in the process.

Agree that it fills the plot but I don't have much of a problem with it.

I'm sure the spacious entrance hallway and upstairs landing give a nice feeling of space. Other than those areas, the rooms look very normal in size.

Kitchen decor isn't to my taste but it's not too offensive. Not like that place in Newton Mearns, anyway.

Big window at the front doesn't have a great view but, again, I wouldn't say it's a nightmare.

Quite different from the 'before' property - https://goo.gl/maps/CY2NbNYgNPP2

Style wise it does seem out of place, going double storey seems okay as both neighbours are as well.

Something that I dislike is the lack of symmetry in photo 29 - the garage door and upstairs window are both offset in opposite directions from the midpoint. Not liking the worktops either - a bold choice. Also, the front door is offset, rather then centred.

EDIT : personally I'd find the staircase & landing being that exposed undesirable - one would have to be presentable to go downstairs and make a coffee. I'm more of a stumbling around in my underpants than slippers and robe kinda guy.

The main issue I have with it is it is so out of keeping with it's neighbours, and accordingly an eyesore to many. Mum and dad call it fantasy towers.

They're missing the sweeping driveway with entrance and exit gates.

Hm. I often walk from the bathroom to the bedroom in my pants. Guess I would be asked to stop doing that pretty quickly.

I've never understood why people would take inspiration from a business park hotel.

In general I quite like this but the garage door size and position would upset me daily
