Thanks. Sounds like the V7 is worth that bit extra. Might hold out and see if any deals on the V8 pop up.

I've got an Electrolux (AEG?) Ergorapido 18 volt thing and a Dyson V6 and I'd have to say that the Electrolux is the better machine. Four main problems with the Dyson are:

  • The aforementioned dust getting caught problem. Have to constantly empty the canister so it doesn't build up enough to get caught.
  • Awkward removing extensions as the release button is on the machine so you need three hands - one to hold the machine, one to hold the extension and one to press the button. Unless you use the holder to hand the machine for you. Which brings me to the next point;
  • Mount supplied hangs the machine on the wall and you can't hide the plugpack - you end up with a not-so-discrete cable hanging down/along the wall to the powerpoint.
  • On hard surface, the power head brush flings things out the back. Roller spins so quickly it flings debris out the back before the suction can pick it up. Think you've cleaned up? Look a couple of metres behind you and you'll see whatever you think you've sucked up neatly distributed over a wide area.

I've got a Makita on that runs off the batteries from my power tools - £35 from Screwfix! I'm not sure it will replace Henry for the whole house clean, but it is great ofr sucking up the mess that my 18 month old son creates after meal times.

I have a V6 which is perfect for my 3 bed place and cleaning up daily after the four legged purring dirt generator.
Echo the emptying comments but with my funky joints it’s generally a light and very easy tool to use.

Friends at Dyson are useful people and helped relegate my Henry to shed and car duties and the Miele to occasional savage carpet lifting suction level duties.
