Flags outside houses
Discussion
We have a propper flagpole on the garage and that has either the Union Jack, St George cross or the rose of Yorkshire
And i live in Dewsbury, in a terrace house, with asian neighbours either side and a mosque at the end of the road - we have never had an ill word said agianst it and neither has anyone else who has put a flag up, personally i dont see whats wrong with flying the flag
However, I hate it when the football is on and you get everyone sticking a flag on they're car as a fashon statement, either have the flag up all the time or dont have it up at all, I remember once being called unpatriotic by an old manager for not flaying the flag on my car when he had oen on his bmw, he did not like me pointing out i was in a British made car built by a British comapny and had a ful sized flag flying all year round

I quite like to see St George's crosses flying on the occasions I'm in England. Let's face it, it's taken you 300 years to finally figure out that the Union flag is not the flag of England it'd be a shame to spoil it now. Now all you need to do is to learn when to show each flag on the correct occasion and which way up it should be.

I have just had a very fine Verandah built ( its made of decking but we like to think of it as rather Somerset-Maugham as opposed to Ground-Force ! ) And I want to have a flag pole for flying the Union Jack ,however when England are playing rugby down the road at Twickenham then the St George will be hoisted , I will run up the red ensign for my sailing friends and my Rowing club flag for my Rowing friends , when the Queen comes ....She will have to bring her own , i can't find a Royal Standard on e-bay !!
What other flags should I get ?

Let's be honest, the American flag is beautiful, just like the Union Jack is beautiful. But, as I understand it, it's looked down upon by ultra-liberals to put up the Jack as it reminds them of the colonial past? st, I'd be proud of that!
The Jack is part of Australia and NZ's flags, amongst other countries, and they are certainly very proud of theirs and couldn't care less about the colonialism.off_again said:

My sister bought her hubby a flagpole and flag for a present once. It takes pride of place outside the house and the flag is raised if he is in or down if he is out...
