We bought the Intex from Aldi (£300), had it for the past year and it’s been good value. The pump has had some issues but with the 3 year warranty it’s hassle free - after sending a copy of our receipt, a new pump arrived 3 days later. Having previous experience with Lay-z spa, the Intex is definitely better quality and has a better warranty too!

With what normally goes off in a hot tub, I'm not sure that I really want to know!!!!

Joining the club... was in the range and they had their lay z spa on offer for £350 thought sod it.

Couple of questions

I set it up and did a shock dose of chlorine. It went up to about 10ppm for 24 hrs then slowly came down to about 5.
We used it the next day, all was well. Dipped it again after we used it and probably down to about 1ppm. PH looking ok (had to put PH+ in when setting it up) and alkalinity ok too.

Last night I put 2 chlorine tablets in and tested this morning and still only just over 1ppm. I guess I need to put more tablets in the floater? What are you guys using? I put 3 in today to see what happens tonight.

Also I don't have outside power set up at the moment so having to unplug overnight and whilst at work. I assume it will be ok like this for a few days till I get an outside socket and sort out the power.

Is the "brick" (RCB?) water proof?

I would still like to get one of these, but whats putting me off is the pump noise. I would hate it if the neighbours had one and I had to listen to their pump blasting away. If ever they make a more silent version then I'm in.

The circulation pump is very quiet. From more than about 10 feet away you cant hear it.

The air pump is not as quiet but still not that bad. Bit like running a jet wash or a vac.

Depends how close next door are?

I use granulated chlorine and an old teaspoon as it dissolves very quickly and it's much easier to stay on top of the correct dosage. 5 semi-heaped spoons on a fresh fill, 3 after use, and occasional extras if it hasn't been used for a few days and the test stick shows it low.

As for the noise, when it's on heating only mode the pump is very quiet. Neighbours will not be able to hear it. With the bubbles on it is quite loud and you need raised voices to talk, but that'll only be while you're in it. I would doubt a proper hot tub would be much quieter with the jets and waterfalls running.

This is our second year with ours. I keep threatening to buy a proper one as we've had so much use out of the Lay-Z-Spa it's convinced me it'll be worthwhile. It's difficult to justify the £8-10k when this one does such a decent job at a tiny fraction of the price.

now down to 1 chlorine tab per day and have outside power set up now via a waterproof mains socket on the outside wall of the house should come in handy for other stuff.

What temp you guys leaving it on when not in use? Now mine is running 24/7 left it on 35?

I’ve got one for which I built a surround. Bought a waterproof blue tooth speaker, a flashy floating disco light, lots of solar lights... various furnishings, plants etc. Then added a projector and screen for an outdoor cinema so I needed another sofa. Then a Pizza Oven, now a ’plunge/cocktail pool’. All of this I’ve done myself and for under £1000. The fun we have is priceless.

Use of the timer feature on economy seven is handy. Gets used regularly. Make sure the pump is stored inside when the temp drops/frost hits. I’ve read stories about water freezing up inside. They’re not cheap to replace.

Had ours 3 weeks now and been in it a couple of times a week. How often should you change the water? I have seen anything from 1 month to 3 months when looking around.

It's a feature of the hydrojet system. I have a Palm Springs without. frown

However this is the second year and for £300 (IIRC, on offer) it's amazing. It was bought on a whim and it's remarkable. Certainly nothing like as st as you'd expect for a cheap inflatable sex pond. hehe It makes a proper hot tub look like spectacular poor value.

We bought a Lay-Z-Spa Monaco two years ago (so this is the third year of use). We had it delivered to our holiday rental in Abersoch and set it up in the garage which was open to the garden with a view over the beach. Massively enhanced the holiday - it will be packed up and taken to Abersoch again this summer (although I don't know whether this year's rental will have a good space for it).

The Monaco has much thinner fairly rigid sides when inflated and loads more internal space, which is great for the kids to use as a play pool (ages 9 and 6). This does mean the water goes horrid quickly as they are in and out of it so much: I'm tempted to change my tap in the utility room to one I can attached the hose to so I can refill with hot water directly.

I hadn't ever checked the heating cost and I'm really surprised how low it is from earlier posters' experience: I have it turned off most of the time and just turn it on when I want to use it. Is that inefficient?

We’ve got one and it’s comfortable. The 3 day energy cut off is a complete an utter pain in the backside though as you have to remember to go to it and push some buttons every 72 hours or it shuts itself off. And you can guarantee when you want to use it you will have forgotten and it will be stone cold. There is no way to turn this off either.

In the mean time mines leaking and motor not sounding great so will more than likely go in the bin soon. Only had it about 9 months too so not a great product!

This. My friend has an ‘official’ expensive hot tub, like £15k, with lights/built in Bluetooth etc. It’s not worth it for the thirty minutes you spend in it. Whereas I have the £300 with a £5 floating flashy disco light. As for having sex in them it’s overrated.

Thankfully I’m not on a water meter so change mine regularly. Merely because of late I have models and a God’s honest real life porn star staying with me so the water tends to be full of makeup/tan/lotions and potions after a week.

Love using it in the evening when the stars are out. Don’t see the point in the shelters you can buy.
I did pick up a couple of inflatable headrests recently though as these are nice in the evening to lay back on with a glass of wine stargazing.

Can you get a solar type of heater thing? I’d imagine solar panels floating on the top helping things along? No idea if there is such a thing?
