Luckily they are all the same size otherwise it would be a fight and compromise I would imagine. When they are old enough the 2 kids will have the rooms at the front and we will have the two at the back. If they haven't left by 16 they can live in the summerhouse wink

Older:younger doesn't come into it for me, the one there full time gets first choice.

Or flip a coin.

Simple, whichever one agrees to paying a higher rent. Get them used to real life

Hi Eddie - I think as others have suggested the fact the older one lives there full time I'd suggest asking which she'd prefer, though that said the smaller room does look more spacious and airy even if it is smaller. Which of the 2 is at the back of the house? A rear facing bedroom may allow a bit more privacy to a soon to be teenage girl.
Guessing you're getting off Loves Farm then smile you staying in St Neots?

As posters have said give the choice. When I was 15 I chose the smaller bedroom as it was away from parents room and along the landing. I'd have some privacy wink and creaky floorboards make great early warning alarms.

This may or may not be helpful biggrin

Sounds like the general consensus of the thread is the older one who is there 100% gets to choose, which I wouldn't disagree with one bit.

but what I would suggest, is that when talking to her about it, don't refer to them as the big room and the small one because it might just end up being an automatic choice for the bigger one as some kids just want more.

The 'bigger' room is at the back. Not moving far, only about 4 miles out but honestly, I don't like living on Loves Farm. I have never liked it much, and regretted moving here within a few weeks so the move in August can't come soon enough. Thankfully we've only been renting here, so it's easy to get away. And, more garage space and a workshop in the new place ... so, motoring projects!

Thanks for your input everyone; I guess we'll have to ask her which is her preferred room and go from there.

a) The oldest gets the choice of the bigger room
b) The one who's there 100% of the time should get the choice of the bigger room (over one who's their 50%)

As a+b are the 12 year old daughter, give her the choice.
This would be my view.

However, a couple of notes to add. The eldest child who lives at the house full time is about to become a teenage. A girl teenager at that.

The OP needs to be aware that the point where she chooses which room she would would like must be recorded and stored securely for future playback when it all kicks off randomly for absolutely no reason. : D

The second important aspect the OP must consider is that if his son's room is empty most of the time, how comfortable will it for the OP as with a teenage daughter in the house he will be spending a lot of time hiding in the far corner of his son's room shaking and sobbing like a small child forced to watch a hundred bunny rabbits clubbed to death.

Great, really looking forward to that...

As a kid and being the youngest I ended up with the smallest room. When I had the opportunity to build my own house a few years ago, I specifically ensured that my two sons room were identical in size.

Hmmm! I know what you mean and I always remain neutral when someone tells me they live there, it's not a place I'd want to stay on lets put it that way. Hemmed in beyond belief, an 'interesting' mix of social vs private, tiny gardens, no frontage etc... Typical new build estate. The houses are generally well designed and reasonably spacious but IMHO not particularly well built, hence we bought on the other side of town in Eaton Socon. Where abouts are you heading to?

I was going to say see the PM I've sent you, but I can't send you a PM, so can discuss next time our paths cross.
