Relative has had a quote for install of 9 LED ceiling spot lights in kitchen. Electrician says it will take a day to do. Quote is £570 inc VAT. Is this a fair quote?

Depends on the cost of the LED lights. Let me know what type are being recommended and I will tell you if they are worth the money or not.

The fitter has told her that they are good ones and that's all they know at the moment. I suppose what I'm asking is, is that quote what you would expect for fitting decent LED spotlights or would that be for top of the range stuff.

9 good LED lamps could cost that alone. Fitting them is half a days work I would say depending on how much of the ceiling he is going to hack apart.

Agreed. I wouldn't want to pay more than £100 for a half day which makes me wonder what type of lights he's going to fit to make it that expensive.

It depends what's above the kitchen ceiling.

Kitchen extension with flat roof = massive ball-ache
Bungalow or kitchen extension with pitched roof and access hatch = piece of piss
Another room, which you tell him will be emptied to allow him to lift boards = a bit more work but not too difficult
Another room full of furniture = ball-ache
Bathroom with tiled or laminate flooring = massive ball-ache

The price he's quoted doesn't sound unreasonable unless access is an absolute doddle.

I think you'll find someone above has already declared it's half a days worth of work. He must surely be better than you or I, with all our guff about variables?

To add to Ganglandboss post, if it were flat/inaccessible ceiling, there's the issue to making good access holes etc, and like said before the quality of the fittings. £15 buys you cheap, £35 buys you something nice.

But as far as you can speculate it's about where I'd expect.. so long as he's reg'd/part P.
