Gazza has apparently been rushed to hospital yesterday after turning up at Health Spa/Rehab centre in Surrey, blind drunk.

Once in his room he then sustained a serious injury caused by a broken glass to his hand and wrist, which led to an ambulance taking him to hospital.

This of course is the same Gazza that West Midlands Police announced they wanted to speak over an alleged "hate crime" joke during a recent theatre event early in the week. Allegedly he said that the theatre was too dark to see a black security guard but clearly this is so shocking & dangerous (in the same way as suggesting on Twitter that the McCanns may not be as fragrant as they appear.) that WMP have felt the need to intimidate a clearly psychologically damaged man.
By the way, I'm not trying to belittle racist abuse but I would imagine as a security guard in a busy theatre he gets far worse than that at least once a week. If it was a member of the audience and her young child who Gazza said it to maybe but a security guard???

I think we all know the way this is going to end and have done for sometime with regard to Gazza but in the meantime perhaps someone might want to chat with WMP about their priorities.

Leave him to his own devices. If he wants to drink himself to death then let him provided he doesn't involve anyone else.

There are many people suffering from an addiction like this. Yet someone who kicked a sack of air around and cried seems to get so much attention.

If someone in his position can't get help, what hope is there for others?

As with any addiction, the person with the issue needs to admit to themselves that have a problem before they can be helped.

The lack of sympathy for Gazza probably stems from the fact that because of his fame and wealth he's been in some of the best rehab clinics in the world and yet a few months later he's off the wagon again.

Sure he has an addiction but he still has to take some responsibility for his actions. Who he associates with, what environment he puts himself in, whether he chooses to beat up women whilst drunk, whether he chooses to stay in rehab for longer etc etc - these are all things which he is responsible for.. He can't blame it all on an addiction.

Of course you can. It's the addiction that CAUSES these behaviours. That doesn't mean he is COMPELLED to behave like that. But he wouldn't be behaving this way if he wasn't addicted.

Having an addictive personality often indicates an inability to stop oneself - in all sorts of areas.

Unfortunately he will probably go the same way as George Best.

Alcohol is responsible for so much of societies ills, witness any busy town centre on a Friday/Saturday night.

Drink in moderation...no problem.

I'm not so sure, he was never the sharpest knife in the drawer was he? He made some poor choices along the way, in all sorts of ways, despite having the best of advice and help.

Is it just famous alcoholics that should be let off police inquiries or all alcoholics?

Beer the cause of and solution to all of life's problems.

I disagree with that statement it is certainly the cause of, it is a drug which if was invented today wouldn't be permitted ie it's impacts are on a par with Snow White.

I feel for people trapped like Gazza, it's all too easy for tee totals to say bad things about him but it's now not his fault he is an addict he constantly needs something to take the edge off it. There is no cure.

If only they could make 0% beer with lovely beer taste instead of it tasting rank and instead you'd rather water. If you can get that to work it will help so many.

So let me get this straight...hate crime only applies to members of the audience if they're female and have young children? Security Guards should just suck it up as part of the job? Perhaps it's you who needs to think.

Agreed. Its not acceptable to take the piss out of somone because of their colour, even more so when they have to be there for as their job. At least if they were a member of the public they could walk away, or stand up to it.

Dread to think what sort of theatre the OP visits where security guards take racist abuse in their stride...

Yes, lets get this straight. As I said in the OP I'm not supporting racist abuse in anyway. If he had used a racial insult, name or similar & kept going through the performance, then I would be the first to condemn him but he didn't. This isn't Michael Richards committing career suicide by constantly using one word in an insulting conversation with a member of the audience. He made an ill-judged comment at a member of staff who works in a profession no matter if they are black or white I'm pretty sure get far worse abuse than this thrown at them every week.

But think about the words "hate crime", does this really deserve that term? To me, the fact that this incident has mentioned broken glass and damage to his hands & wrist would strongly suggest a suicide attempt, so the actions of the WMP may well have been the push to send this admittedly self-inflicted fragile man over the edge.

Tell you what,
angela.jain@itv.com

That's the email address of the director of ITV4. Perhaps you guys want to vent your righteous anger at her as currently her channel is showing repeats of On The Buses which contain so much racism and sexism they make Gazzas comments seem like a Nobel Prize acceptance speech. Because if you think Gazza is guilty of a 'hate crime' then by broadcasting that offensive 70s rubbish in the middle of the morning when kids can see it, then she is too.
