I'm trying to work out the physical floor loading for a new build double garage (sorry, no build thread just yet!) and am not getting very far with beam and block flooring suppliers or with my boiler supplier/installer. The flooring company says - tell us the load, and the boiler company says - design the floor to take these bits of equipment.

Can anyone do a simple floor loading calculation for me please or provide me with a quote to do so? The garage floor area needs to house a thermal store, biomass boiler and part of a car in one section and 'one and a bit' cars in the other sections! Sounds complicated but it isn't I promise!

The flooring company says they need the answer in kN/m2 and I have weights of objects (dead loads) in Kg and dimensions. As ever, all help and assistance gratefully received.

What is the plan area of the total floor and the total weight of all the items you anticipate to be on it.

Are there any finishes that need to be applied to the floor? Will they add much load?

Might need to consider an increased floor loading allowance local to the heavy items?

Supply me this an i can work it out for you.

Thanks Ben, PM sent and if I get your email I can pass the various drawings/laydowns I have.

Using axle stands?

So, still looking for assistance or quotes please.

Drawing of floorplan is

Thermal store is 1100mm dia and weighs 2280Kg
Expansion vessel is 630mm dia and weighs 56Kg (if it partially contains water it will be heavier by 1Kg per litre. I don't know whether it is just an air expansion vessel or an air/water mix) - no physical location given but roughly where it sits
Boiler is 1202 x 932mm and weighs 750 Kg
The semi circle arcs for the doors are just to show where they will move.

Walls are concrete block, dwarf centre wall is 200 (or roughly 215mm) wide to allow for 100mm beam overlap each side.

As you can see, the left hand floor will support most of one car and the right hand floor will support one and a bit cars - not cars on axle stands though they may get used at some point.

Beam and Block floor will have a screed of 75mm concrete and A142 mesh or equiv (ie concrete /fibre)

The beam/block floor company says - tell us the loading and we'll calculate the floor plan, boiler company says - it's down to the flooring company.

By my calcs (and I've NO idea of these are how to do it), for the thermal store (heaviest item) I get:

2280kg sits on an area 1100mm wide and this spans the whole floor of the left hand bay, so 3898mm. Thus total surface area is 1100 x 3898 = 4.2878m2
Loading is therefore 2280 / 4.2878 = 531.74Kg/m2 = 5.2146 kN/m2

If I then apply a dead load safety factor of 1.4, I get 7.3kN/m2

Trouble is, the thermal store sits on an area 0.95m2 so if I use this figure, I then get 32.95kN/m2 which is vastly different!
