Got an interesting one here, got a 3 car garage with 3 separate remote controlled electric roller doors and side door.

Looking at putting some sort of alarm in there but from conversations with installers they want me to enter thought the side door and unset / set the alarm. This is not really what i want to do to be honest as i just want to pull up and open the door and drive in, the side door was installed only encase there is a power cut or issues with the main doors.

I must not be the only one with this issues, how have others done this? maybe a remote controlled alarm or perhaps something you can set and unset via your phone ?

You can have a PIR/Dualtech(s) set up to be on the entry timer. You could then set the timer long enough to get in, get out & unset.

Thanks for the replies,

It is not the door contacts we have issues with, it is the setting the alarm or more how to unset it this issue, i want to do this ideally from outside.

How odd, my father has a house alarm that can be remotely set or deactivated via a remote key fob, similar to car key. Turns the alarm off before he enters the house. You'd think they'd be able to install something similar.

So put them on entry timer.

This is all you need to do. I did it in my last house as i needed both the roller door and rear entry to trigger the entry/exit timer.

Our garages are not alarmed but we also have remote controls for the house alarm. The gardener has his own remote control which activates and deactivates the outbuildings he uses which are set as a separate zome in the system. If your alarm installers can't install a system which can't be divided into zones and be operated remote controls, then I'd get another company who know what they're doing.

google pyronix enforcer, wire free system quite cheap and you can use a fob from inside the car to set and unset the system.

Or fir a conventional system with roller shutter contacts on the garage doors, they are mounted on the floor and can be driven over.

Fit a dual Tec in the garage and a contact on the side door, now if you have electric garage doors you can wire a relay to the light output on the motor. Connect the normally closed side of the relay to a zone on the alarm and program as entry exit.

Presto when you hit the fob to open the garage door the light comes on the relay triggers and the entry timer starts.

Done the above loads of times without any issues.

Visonic alarm, electric roller door, door contacts. Can be set with an entry/exit delay and set by remote keyfob or phone/text. Job done.

I've got a Texecom Veritas alarm and Hormann sectional door.

Setting the alarm is on a 1 min timer, so I can arm the alarm, get in the car, drive out and shut the garage. The only downside is that it is beeping away for what feels a long time.

To disarm the alarm, I have the hormann accessory relay connected in parallel with the sensor, so whilst the door is opening and the courtesy light is on, the sensor is disabled. Giving me enough time to drive into the garage and enter the code to disarm fully.

get a new installer. sounds like they have stock of bog standard, cheapo alarms they are trying to palm off on you with basic functions. you can get new systems to do anything nowadays. remotely, from your phone etc. seems like they are looking for the easy option.

Preferably an installer accredited by either SSAIB or NSI.

At least you will have some comeback if it goes tits up.

I run a SSAIB accredited company and we are externally audited every year, no members of staff can have a criminal record etc etc...

Really easy tbh,

Sensor on each door, set as entry points (final) and set a time to two minutes or so (enough for the door to go up and drive in and disarm)

Set pir sensors to exit.

4 x door sensors
2 x pir sensors

Job done....

My ADT alarm has a keyfob remote.

We just disarm when we arrive in the drive before opening the door.
Also arm the alarm once the door is closed and we are going out.

I in now way recommend ADT however, if I were to do it again would use a local company.

Thanks for you help and advise so far, to give a bit more info.

The doors are indeed electric with a light so that can be used. I really wanted it to set and unset from outside rather than have it on a timer there are a few reasons

1 i am lazy !
2 i would like the alarm to go off as soon as there is a break in or the doors are forced up and not on time delay.

I really wanted it at least to call me or text me when it is going off or even monitored by a third party.

The guy i asked was the service engineer for the one at my business that is on Redcare and GSM, so may not be the best man to ask.

I have been down the rout before and installers usually like a certain type of brand and this is why i asked for advice.

As I said if you use the output off the electric doors to start the entry timer the door contacts could be on instant alarm.

Also look at dualcom gprs as a form of signalling device. Where in the UK are you located?

Midlands based, near to J3 M54, The reason for the inquiry was i am just finishing off boarding the ceiling and wanted to get if fitted before hand.

I have no experience with wireless alarms but really wanted to go down the hardwire route.
