Fire alarm system for large domestic property

Rather a dull subject which may explain the lack of info I have found so far.
I am looking to install a linked fire alarm system across a large house, attached cottage and outbuildings. Will need at least 10 detectors I think.
In some locations I can hardwire easily enough (don't worry, I will get a suitably qualified electrician in). In places battery operated units would save a lot of hassle and expense.
Am I right in thinking I can integrate units from different manufacturers into the same system? Does anyone have any recommendations? I was looking at FireAngel on Screwfix but there a lot of bad reviews out there.
