I have just moved into a new house, a big one (By My Standards). We are out in the country and are currently running on LPG. it works well and has a fairly new central heating system, but it's going to cost a fortune to run in the winter. For a measure, we have had the heating on even in this last week. just to take the edge off.

the house also could do with being kept a bit warmer for a few years, to keep the damp out. It's got a bit of a back story to the property, I will start up a new thread for that, and to index my multiple upcoming questions.

For now, though, I need to figure out if a biomass pellet boiler will keep the 3rd jumper in the cupboard. During the summer at least.

I have had an LPG offer of 49p, per ltr, so about £0.072 per kWh, plus the tank rental (Standing charge) of £60 a year. (Fixed for 2 years)

Biomass online stuff seems to come in at around £300 per tonne bulk blown in delivered. this makes it around £0.063.

I know that the government subsidies have ended, but is Biomass now really that expensive? You can find used boilers and tanks on eBay at some very reasonable prices. Are there any real-world experiences here? I'm looking for specific information around:

Cost of biomass ownership
Boiler reliability
Supply and delivery costs and reliability
Has Putin made your heating more expensive?
What do you pay per tonne of blown pellets?
