For the last month I've had my boiler off and I've been using the solar to heat the water tank. Am I damaging my boiler not using it and would there be some issue with bacteria at night when the solar isn't doing anything?

I've got a massive frickin headache so I'm probably missing something really obvious. I really don't understand the point of a boiler as its only used for hot water and heating. That can be achieved by solar. Everything else makes its own hot water (washing machine, dishwasher) or am I missing something. And when the suns not out I don't mind the cold - sleep with the windows open and have no issue with warm/cold showers.

Nah, my house doesn't get that cold or maybe I don't feel it.
