Scary as it seems, i may be spending more than a few months in this lovely part of Surrey, but the upside is i can get a 3-bed house with decent parking space for a little over 1 grand per month. So what else can you get up to a budget of £1500'ish that's within walking distance of a line to London?

[don't really like these new P&P sub-divisions frown]

Yep, New Malden is much nicer. I suppose it's worth spending £200 or so more and not get a cap in my *ss on my daily commute.

That'd be novel in Tolworth, to be fair.

How about Ewell Village?
The nolvelty might wear off very quickly. Ewell Village seems better value, though i will lose the (more) direct trains to Epsom during peak.

I don't know much about public transport in the area (how uncouth); I'm sure one of the other PHers can help as there are a few in the Epsom/Ewell area.
No worries. I've spent a few years in Epsom - just never bothered to venture round to surrounding towns - though one can gauge an area by the type of people who use public transport. Ewell fared well in the relatively low proportion of knuckle-draggers who got into my train; it's not quite as handy for the A3 as New Malden. In any case, not sure how long i will need to rent, but i don't want to live next to Wayne/Waynetta (or their ethno-diverse equivalents) for any longer than i can bare.

I would recommend perhaps Walton?
It's actually where i might end up buying, but i thought about renting somewhere nearer to London in the meantime.

What do you need space wise?
3 rooms of stuff, and i work from home .. sounds mad (or a waste of money) but i can't bear the thought of not living in something house-like .. obviously, i could bung some of this or rid of one of the cars but i'd rather not.

Oooh, garage and only a couple of minutes walk from Surbiton station and the nearest bars.

Built like ste, you will hear everything your neighbour does. Bar that it seems ok.
Like that - handy for station and low maintenance. I can tolerate the odd humping noises for a couple of months at least.
